We stayed 2 nights in Liem San Village, the gateway to Lak Lake and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, although few locals spoke English. From town you can wak part of the way round the lake and most visitors headed for Jun Village where you could ride elephants, dine at several restaurants or take a boat ride. Jun village had many long houses and offers overnight accommodation. Certainly worth an overnight visit.

Had a 45 mins flight from HCM to Buon Ma Thuot, than take a local bus (30k VND) to Lak town. From there, you can call reception at Lak Tented camp and they will show you the way. My friends and I spend 2 nights at this eco-resort and we love it. You can do kayaking, trekking, biking, enjoy the wild guava, wild veggie and must drink the bamboo alcohol. Total 3 days, 3 nights cost me around 200 USD ;) perfect get away trip. Remember to bring anti-mosquito cream. alot of them

We totally agree with one of the reviews below: do not go on the elephants. It’s hard to believe that people just jump on them so mindlessly. We saw the animals doing one loop through the lake after another, with a metal seat on top and only one pad below it, and of course at least 2 if not 3 or 4 people on its back. If they were not working, they were standing in a closed and very limited space, waiting for another ride. Appaling! These are wild animals and they have to go through very cruel training and have miserable lives just because people lack imagination and need to fill their time with “entertainment”. The lake is beautiful, and so what if you have to witness this hearbreaking reality? On top of it, the place that offers rides has chosen the most innacurate word: “ecotourism”.

I've just spent 2 days with Hoang Tuan. Had wonderful experience. As a solo traveller I was able to ride on his motorbike and we also took local bus to Lak Lai and Yok Don National Park. I wasn't interested in riding an elephant but had a wonderful trip in a canoe. Got to visit several minority villages which were very interesting. We did lots of exploring. Visited a coffee and cacao plantation. Had some wonderful roadside food and met some lovely people along the way. Nothing seemed too much of an effort for Tuan who picked me up from my guesthouse as well as took me to bus station when I departed BMT. Sometimes his English was a little hard to understand but we got by. If you want to contact Tuan email hoangtuan121975@gmail.com Or phone +84943810787 If I had been travelling South he would have been happy to show me around Nha Trang.
