About
Here, in 1475, Michelangelo was born. His father, Ludovico di Buonarroto Simoni, was one of the governors who were sent from the Republic of Florence, every six months, to Caprese. After the birth certificate of Michelangelo showed his birth to be in Caprese, in 1875 the Museum was founded inside the ancient Palazzo del Podestà, the house where he was born.

Peace and quiet.

The scenery around here is beautiful. It is very peaceful. There are copies of Michelangelo’s works and exhibits from other sculptors. We were the only people visiting at the time. It is well laid out. The grounds are well looked after. There are interesting exhibits in them. There isn’t a lot about Michelangelo as such.

Michelangelo's birthplace - worth a visit just for that.
Aug. 2017 • Couples
This is Michelangelo's place of birth. Good welcome and explanation of the site in English by the person at reception, we were then left alone to wander. It's good to visit, the views are fantastic, but.... there's not really a whole lot there. I thought they could have done far more to explain his life, etc. and really bring it to life, but the tickets were reasonably inexpensive, and there is only one Michelangelo, and only one place he was born - so thought this was a reasonable visit. Wouldn't go back.

Nice to visit if you are in the neighbourhood

Nice for an hour to walk around and see the house and sculptures. The scenery is great and it is nice to visit the beautiful house but do not expect to see real art, just some mockups.

The sculpture garden is a 'happy place'
Apr. 2016 • Friends
We visited the Museo Michelangiolesco years ago and still recall it with joy. Who knew that such an interesting museum existed in such a small town, incidental birthplace of a great Renaissance artist. But the sculpture garden, overlooking the next valley, is the best part. Felicita'

A lovely spot but the Michelangelo connection is exploited
Sep. 2016 • Couples
This is an atmospheric spot, interesting enough to wander round, but don't expect too much from the Michelangelo connection. There is a display of furniture contemporary with the artist and a collection of small pieces of sculpture that show the master's influence. When we were there, an exhibition of modern paintings was being installed. The Museo is worth a diversion if you're in the area, but just to enjoy the location and soak up the atmosphere.

a romantic and beautiful excursion
Sep. 2016 • Friends
My friends and I have visited Caprese Michelangelo many times over the years and recommend a visit to the charming and beautiful spot. The museum is high overlooking this small and pretty town and is castle where Michelangelo was born. Whilst he and his parents left the place long before he began his career as one the greatest of renaissance artists it is worth visiting this place for a number of reasons. Firstly because of the history; simply being the place where the man first drew breath is of course enough. The location is remarkably beautiful; it's worth the climb to the top of the hill just for the view. The art exhibitions show copies of the Masters work and illustrate the influence he's had on art from his day onwards; it's worth pointing out that the contemporary displays rotate and well worth the diversion. And last but not least the star of the shop is Giovanni; the most interesting and interested guide and receptionist a museum could hope for...well done mate!
