About
Secluded yet spacious, Mullet Bay is a peaceful and relaxing alternative to Maho Beach. You can rent chairs and umbrellas from the snack bars on the south side of the beach, or head up to the quieter northern end, which leads to a small promontory with amazing views of the bay. Book a sunset sail tour or a snorkeling tour out to the nearby coral reef, and cap off your day by walking inland to the lively bistros and bars. Just watch out for big waves from June through November—it's hurricane season in the Caribbean. – Tripadvisor

- The DMaryland10 contributionsGood beach, sometimes crowded.Mullet bay is a great beach BUT weekends and cruise ship days you shouldn’t go. It’s the only reason for 4 stars. The water can be wild if there is swell or flat as a lake but it’s more sandy than a lot of other beaches.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 February 2024
- Angie PPerth, Canada406 contributionsAmazing clear water!Went for a day trip to Mullet Bay. We took a taxi from Simspon Bay, which cost $25. Front row chairs and umbrella cost $30. Well, worth the day! Eater is crystal clear. Water is calm. I found it could get busy, so get there early to get the best seats if you are planning to rent the chairs. I found the excursion boats coming I close to shore, which is a shame. They actually asked people swimming to move aside... the day we were there had 4 cruise ships in, but there was still plenty of room. Ate at Rosie's on the beach. We had chicken, which was very tasty. Our driver could not make it back to pick us up due to traffic (truck broke down). We hopped on a bus that was taking cruisers back to port. We ended up getting out at the roundabout near the airport at Simpsons Bay as it was quicker to walk. Due to the traffic issue a 15 minute drive took 1 hour. I would recommend not missing this beautiful beach.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 22 February 2024
- Robyn W10 contributionsThis beach and the water was our favorite !Best beach!! The water is so clear and clean! This is definitely worth the trip! We went jet skiing on the beach . $80 for 30 minutes . We ate at Rosie’s on the beach , cash only but so inexpensive and good! Wear flip flops and walk out on the rocks . Mh husband and daughter kept jumping off and swimming back. We walked to Maho by the airport to see the planes takes off. Easy 10 min walk on a dirt road. Was able to get a can back from Maho to Simpson bag resort for $7 a person . Such a fun day !Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 April 2024
- VesteDemitteHalifax, Canada157 contributionsMullet is a Must!!!Mullet Bay is one of the first stops for us when we hit the island! Beautiful, tranquil and clear water, it is the perfect spot for hanging out all day and sipping on beer & margaritas. Note - it can get crowded, and it is most busy on the weekends. If you are planning to be here on the weekends or holidays, ensure to get there around 10:30 - 11am to get beach chairs. Rosie's is a must when at Mullet.. Overall great vibe and incredible beach for swimming and watching the boats.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 May 2024
- M K6 contributionsCrazy waves at mullet bayReally big beach. The views are beautiful and plenty of beach chairs $20 per chair. The snapper fish at Rosie’s on the beach is fantastic. If you are not a strong swimmer the waves are really strong on windy days. Overall a great experience, oh and dog friendly A+Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 June 2024
- shahnileToronto, Canada38 contributionsExcellent beachAn amazing beach with warm, clear water and ideal for swimming. There's plenty of parking but recommend to go early in the morning to get an ideal location and then enjoy the day on the beach. You can rent 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella for US$30. The attendant was pretty helpful and set up the equipment. The bar was well stocked and had quite a number of choices as did the restaurant. Will definitely recommend to plan to spend the day there.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 August 2024
- Joe PadillaCharlotte, North Carolina63 contributionsBest Beach on the Dutch Side of SXM!Our favorite beach on the Dutch side of SXM, Mullet Bay is a secluded slice of paradise that can feel like your own private island -- if you get there early enough in the day. The quarter-mile stretch of sand wraps the crystal blue waters of the bay like an amphitheater, and the sky puts on one hell of a show at sundown. The surf here can get VERY rough, however, so be sure to watch out for small kids. There are only a handful of restaurants on Mullet Bay, which adds to its appeal. Da Waterhole, near the parking lot at the beach's southern end, is the quintessential Caribbean beach bar, serving up delicious cocktails, cold beer, tasty seafood and live music just steps away from the surf. Rosie's Snack Bar, just north, is a stripped-down version of the same, with lower prices and a more basic selection. And Kalatua, in the middle of the beach, is an upscale experience, with world-class cuisine and full table service. All three restaurants rent chairs and umbrellas -- Rosie's usually has the best prices, but be sure to bring cash. Mullet Bay has its own parking lot, accessed by a hard-to-find turnoff near the golf course. It can be VERY tough to find a spot after about mid-morning (especially on weekends), so anyone staying in Cupecoy or Simpson Bay should consider walking over instead. Just cut across the seldom-played golf course and you'll be on the beach in a few minutes. But however you get here, make sure to find your way to Mullet Bay during your SXM vacation -- it's one of the island's best beaches, and one our family returns to on every visit.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 19 September 2024

Gorgeous beach with nice sand and easy swimming and snorkeling. Getting in and out of the water is easy with a nice sloping sandy beach and gentle waves. On the south side of the beach (left as you face the ocean) is an area with some coral and fish for snorkeling. The food at the two bars on the beach is great, try the chicken! We liked the one with live music closer to the south end because they had a great live band and if you had a tab with them, bathroom use was free ($2 otherwise). Two chairs with umbrella is $20 for the day (cheaper than other beaches we visited on the island) and the guys working the beach were fun to chat with. Bring cash as cards aren't accepted.

This is our favorite beach for snorkeling, its usually calm and plenty of room to relax and the beach is accessible. They updated the amenities since our last visit. There is now a restaurant and bar on the beach with tables and a small board walk.
Restrooms are private at the bar and cost 2$ to use. The bar offers typical drinks and bar food, and a nice addition to an already great beach.
Parking is tight, so get their early to get a good spot, usually before 11am.

It is a 10 min walk from Sonesta Resort. There is a part where sidewalk is missing, but we still felt pretty safe to walk with a toddler. Some cars stopped for us to cross the road on the way.
Beach is beautiful and it is way less crowded than Maho Beach but we went on Sunday, and there was a good amount of people. There were lots of beach chairs and many people on their towels on sand as well.
Waves were pretty strong in December and would definitely make a good surfing spot. Not ideal for little ones to go in though.

We spend a half day at Mullet Bay beach. The snorkeling was nice, saw different kinds of fish. The restaurant on the left side of the beach served decent food but the atmosphere is very commercial (have to pay for restrooms) and loud. We liked Orient Bay much better, but there are no fish there

Super low-key beach, without much to do but sunbathe and swim. The stretch of the beach is small, you can walk it from one end to another in 10 minutes.
You can rent two chairs and an umbrella for $20. Ask for a sunset package right away. The neat part of this beach is that you can bring your own food and beverages. We bought a small cooler at a Chinese shop and filled it with our choice of alcohol.
Beach boys are attentive, hard working and fast. They clean chairs after each use.

This is the ultimate Caribbean beach, soft white sand, mild waves, fish in the water snorkeling around the rocks. Beach chairs and umbrellas for rent--$20 for 2 chairs and 1 umbrella. (used to be $15, but chairs and umbrellas are upgraded after the hurricane). New snack bar with restrooms ($). Usually crowded but beach is large enough to handle even more.

Mullett Bay is a beautiful white sand beach with crystal clear water. The water is calm most of the time with a few waves here and there. It is a very busy and popular beach. We opted not to rent chairs and go further down the beach away from the crowd to have our own space. I would recommend Mullet Bay but do so earlier in the day to avoid the crowds or go further down the beach.

We spotted this beach from our balcony at the Sonesta Resort. It was a short walk about 15 mins to the beach. It was very clean, has a small bar set up in which to purchase drinks, a change room and washrooms (for a small fee). Great for kids and swimming!

We headed out to explore a new beach and landed here! The parking is a bit crazy but it is definitely a popular local hang out. For $20.00 you can get 3 chairs and two umbrellas. There is a small snack shack with bar near by. We did have the chicken and ribs with fries and coleslaw it was Delicious!! Beware the sand flies at dusk and the surf can be rough on a windy day.

We are stopping in St Maarten with a Royal Caribbean cruise in October with a group of 7. We’d like to visit Mullet Bay and am wondering how much a taxi ride from the cruise port would be as I can’t seem to find a common answer. Would a private taxi be a better option?

Bringing our adult son with autism on a cruise August 2022. There’s an excursion through the ship, but it’s not till130and we arrive in St. Martin at 9am. Are taxis reliable? A couple of reviews said the cab driver didnt want to drive to Mullet Bay and wasn’t going to come back to pick them up. Was this just an isolated incident or should I play it safe and just use the cruise excursion?

What is a good TIME to get out there?? I don't want to go too early, but I don't want to miss out on unbrellas & chairs, either. Thx

going first thing at 9a is still a good idea - first dibs on chairs, opportunity to take pictures without too many people, and still good to swim and miss the super hot sun around noon time (take a nap / eat lunch) at noon.

Hello
You can take local bus- more like white extended mini van- for $2.00 us from Phillipsburg
To Maho beach . Then another $2.00 going back to Phillipsburg.
You can walk from the shops at Maho near the Sonesta hotel.
It will take you 15 min to walk there from Sonetsa hotel, Maho beach.

Im staying at Sonesto Maho with 2 adults and 2 children. Ive been to Orient Beach.
Is Mullet better? Is it wavy? How is Grand Case?
Which beaches do you recommend for snorkelling too?
TIA
Written 2 April 2019
We have been going to Sint Maarten since 1988 and we now go twice a year and the very first beach we went on was Mullet and it remains our favourite on the island!
I understand Sonesta Maho now provides bus service to and from Mullet!
The beach at Grande Case is lovely and pretty good for children, but quite expensive for pretty much everything.
Mullet can sometimes be a little wavy, but we have never had any problems other than Sundays when the locals pretty much take over the beach.
There is good snorkelling at the south end of Mullet, but limited snorkelling in Grands Case.

What is the best way for 6 people to travel from philipsburg to mullet bay and what is the cost?
thanks!
Written 24 February 2019
We took a taxi from the port. Prices are fixed and you pay at a booth. The taxi driver asked us what time we wanted to return and came back for us. I can't remember the exact price we paid, but most people say between $10-$12 per person which is somewhere in the ballpark of what we paid. I've also been told that there's a public bus which would be much cheaper, but I haven't tried it. If you search the forum on here I'm sure you could find more info on that.
