Walking up to this church is not as impressive as many other churches in Italy. But upon going inside, that image changes. The detail, the marble, the mosaic artwork, the wall and ceiling paintings are beautiful! This place is totally worth a stop off the...More

Left this for our last morning , on the way to Bologna. LOVED IT. Went on a Sunday, here was a mass on, but they allowed the entry, which was free. Gorgeous mosaics! Would’ve loved to appreciate this with good light, but we landed up...More

This grand basilica is practically marooned in the middle of the plain surrounding Ravenna and is some way outside the town. The interior of the basilica is elegant, full of light and larger than the basilicas in the town. The columns lead your eye down...More

One of the most beautiful churches I have seen in Italy. Incredible mosaics and beautiful Corinthian columns.

The mosaics in this paleo-Christian church have been one of the highlights of my trip to northern Italy. While it is tempting just to see the ones in Ravenna city centre, this basilica to the south of Ravenna is a gem. The mosaics represent a...More

We agreed this was one of the best mosaics "in" Ravenna but feel that you can easily skip this one when the 5 / 6 places in the center satisfy your interest for mosaics or when you can't get here easily.

Read elsewhere on the internet about the political and religious conflicts that led to Classe being dismantled and important objects being moved to Ravenna. This is the only major UNESCO mosaic site outside of the old historic district, and the fact that it remains at...More

It was a little frustrating trying to figure out how to get a bus ticket at the train station and then to figure out where specifically to stand to catch the bus (if you stand at the wrong place - you just wasted 20-30 minutes)....More

A little outside of Ravenna is the Basilica di Sant'Apollinare en Classe. After a day of touring Ravenna, it is tempting to pass by this mosaic gem. We recommend you fight that temptation. It really is the final stop for mosaic tourism, as no where...More

There is not a specific guided tour of this Church, but you can buy a cumulative ticket that allows you to visit this Church + National Museum of Ravenna (+ Mausoleo of Teodorico as third option). Regards
