Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

But the Dindéfelo Falls are not the only wonders of this enchanting place. The Dindéfelo Community Nature Reserve is home to an incredible diversity of species: chimpanzees, panthers, birds, mammals, monkeys... To better understand and integrate this unique ecosystem, a visit is essential. We take advice from Alpha and organize an expedition to discover this nature reserve, a true treasure of biodiversity nestled in the heart of the Kédougou hills. Here, nature reigns supreme, providing refuge to a multitude of animal species, from chimpanzees to panthers, including an incredible variety of birds and mammals.
This reserve is an ode to wild life, a preserved ecosystem where every bird cry and every rustle of leaf reminds us of the richness of nature. We were particularly impressed by the presence of chimpanzees, these fascinating primates who share this territory with us.
The Dindéfelo Reserve is renowned as one of the best birdwatching spots in the region, attracting bird lovers from all over the world. We were lucky enough to observe a multitude of colorful species, from small passerines to majestic birds of prey soaring in the sky.
But it is above all the meeting with the chimpanzees of West Africa, an endangered species, which will remain engraved in our memories. We were able to observe these great apes in their natural habitat, living in harmony with the nature that surrounds them. Their agility in the trees and their complex social interactions fascinated and amazed us.
It is of course extremely difficult to observe them with certainty. But our guide's knowledge of their daily habits greatly helped make this a positive experience. Around fifty species live in this space, with more than ten young ones. Females have one litter every year and can only give birth to one baby at a time. Their lifespan does not allow them to have more than three litters, so the increase in the number of specimens is slow but real.
Every morning between 8 and 10 a.m., the chimpanzees come down from their nests in the trees to drink. So we waited around the water point. They return here during the day when temperatures are high. Otherwise, you have to wait until the evening.
We were able to observe a female with her baby hidden in the branches near the water.
To protect these endangered primates, the Jane Goodall Spain Institute has established a research, conservation and training center in the region. This commitment to protecting wildlife has deeply touched us.
For those who wish to live this unique experience, it is possible to organize a chimpanzee observation from 30,000 FCFA per person. Contact Alpha, the boss of the Tako Mayo camp. An incredible opportunity to discover these extraordinary creatures in their natural environment, while contributing to their preservation for future generations.

Prices have changed drastically from last year from 15000CFA to 30000CFA for example just for the chimpanzee reserve at the dindefelo tourist office. They then charge you a tourist tax on this and if you don't have a vehicle they enforce you to pay more for their motorbikes. Our guide was terrible, asked us if we had binoculars, spent most of the excursión on his phone, with very little information on the trip at all and not really a positive mood. We ended up hiking to all the spots without a guide which is very easy using maps.me offline they will charge you 10000 for the guide just to take you to the waterfall which is an easy 1km walk that is quite well posted and locals also telling you where to go. Along the way we met some people walking with guides one was very friendly and welcomed us into his home for the night for a very cheap price and his wife cooked us the best meal we've had in Sénégal . I think we were just unlucky with our guide for the experience we paid for, however the price is definitely not worth it for any event at the moment and I truly think that they need to lower the price. Please contact me if you would like the name of a friendly Bedik guide. 😊
