The St. Martin's Church in the middle of Burano was built in the sixteenth century,
The outside (brick work with marble decorations) does not look exceptial, although the church is worth a visit.
However, the real landmark is the slim and a bit odd 53 m high bell town, almost visible from every corner of the island.
Admission is free, although a (small) donation will always be appreciated.

Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon. Most tourists visit Burano for its colorful houses and beautiful street views.

Don’t forget attractions other than colorful houses in this island. For example, the main church San Martino and its Campanile (bell tower). The Campanile is another “Leaning Tower” in Italy.

The tower is a renaissance and neoclassical style architecture, built in the eighteenth century. Its tilt is due to land subsidence.

Quite interestingly, or unfortunately, few tourists notice the historic leaning tower.

This church is particular because it has a crooked bell tower, is located on the main square of the town and the interior appears normal.

The present Roman Catholic church is relatively recent by European standards (circa 16th century) but the original church was built about 6 centuries earlier.

Inside a Tiepolo treasure (inspired by Tintoretto's "Crucifixion" in the Scuola Rocco), also called "Crucifixion" was done in the early 1700's. Dimensions of the impressive piece are roughly 8 feet by 13 feet.

The campanile built in the early 1700's is noticeably leaning. It is closed for 3 hours from noon to 3 p.m.

When visiting, you know it is well used and that it has been so important during celebrations and disasters.
It is not pretty. It is an active, loved Church
It is wheelchair accessible with help.

Have been inside before, but not on my latest visit to Burano due to lack of time, unfortunately.
The tower, which leans at what appears to be an alarming angle, is visible in the Venetian Lagoon for miles around.
As with many churches in Venice there are a number of breathtaking paintings inside, and I will make time when next visiting to view them again.
If you are visiting Burano on a day trip and are pushed for time, there is no need to enter the church unless of course you are into art.

Chiesa di San Martino (also known as Church of San Martino) is a Roman Catholic 16th-century church in Burano and was reconsecrated in 1645.

The bell tower of the church is leaning campanile or leaning tower of Burano. It has more of a lean than the leaning tower of Pisa. This is because it is situated on very unstable soil.
This church and bell tower forms a very important part of Buranos history.
