i was there with my friend .i like the music and the story but it's cold at night.but it was a good show take about one hour ,after the show we take a trip at the River Nile to LUXOR.

We did not visit at night but we visited Edfu temple very early one morning as part of our Nile Cruise. We went to another Sound and Light show and you can give it a skip here as you wont see all the beautiful hieroglyphics at night. We drove through town on a horse and carriage. Generallly, the horses I saw were in decent shape but I assume it depends on that specific owner. The carriage driver was a Nubian man and showed us a lot of places of interest on the way to the site. The little town where they live is very poor.
The temple:
This was a spectacular sight! The front walls are so large and the carvings amazing! There is a beautiful inner courtyard and then when you walk ahead you enter the actual temple. There is still some original colour left on some ceilings. Amazingly enough, this temple was hidden completely on the sand before they excavated it. The hieroglyphics are beautiful. There are a few hidden areas to so take a proper look around. I managed to get some amazing photos here.
There is a coffee shop on-site - try the turkish coffee! Yum! There are stores to but we visited very early before any of them were open and it was really nice as no-one harrassed us to buy anything.
Very impressie sight!

We are just getting around to reviewing the sights from our Egypt trip last year. I can't believe Edfu temple is still not listed for review while the Sound and Light Show is. We don't recommend the night show, it was a bit worthless.
However, this temple is fantastic when viewed during the day. We recommend coming to Edfu and spending 1 night on your upward or downward trip between Cairo - Luxor - Aswan and spending a morning at this fantastic temple, which proved to be our second favorite behind Abu Simbel.
The Edfu temple is highly in tact compared to what you see in Luxor and the carvings and hieroglyphics are in such good shape still. Unless you are on a serious rush, Edfu really should be seen by travelers to Egypt.

Wow what a amazing show .whole temple was so colourful and sound system was so good . Really enjoyed very much.

My experience is colored by the fact that this was the ONLY way I was able to see Edfu. I really, really wanted to spend time in this temple, even at night with simple lighting.
One of the most important, magnificent temples in Egypt - obscured by loud, bombastic music and lights. During the section in the temple courtyard the show director stood *directly* in front of the view to the holy place. He then shouted at the group to turn and look in the various directions that the lights were moving. Hey, it's my money, let me look where I want.
Please note that this is my very first extremely negative review. Normally I just leave unpleasant experiences alone. This time I just couldn't.

It is a unique experience to see this temple at night. The lights make the pharaonic images really stand out. The show is 45-60 minutes and a majority of the time you are seated. The story presentation is somewhat cheesy and forgettable.

We went to the Temple but not the Sound and Light Show. That being said, it was spectacular. With the lack of tourists we had the place virtually to ourselves. We went as part of our Nile River Cruise. The temple is consecrated to Horus, the Falcon god. This version of the temple was built in 327 B.C.E. by Ptolemy III over a previous temple built for Thutmosis III by Imhotep. Parts of this temple were even constructed up to Cleopatra's time. The Great Hypostyle Hall takes your breath away. There is a lesser Hypostyle Hall and many courtyards, plus the granite statue of Horus with the double crown of Upper and Lower Egypt. An historian's paradise.
We had to reach it from the river by calesh, a horse drawn buggy they use for taxis. Apparently, motorized taxis do not exist there as the calesh drivers have a monopoly on getting the tourists around. Make sure you negotiate for the roundtrip fare before you go. If you are with a tour, let the guide handle it and wait for your calesh driver to take you back. Usually he is there waiting. Rush hour gridlock with horse carriages, donkey carts, donkeys, cars, and trucks was hilarious. Go with the flow.

We thought Edfu was one of the most beautiful temples we visited. The first pylon (the front wall) is stunning, with enormous and incredibly well-preserved images of the gods, and the carvings throughout the temple are some of the most impressive we saw, with less of the defacement by the early Christians than many of the other temples. There are small side-rooms dedicated to the giving of sacred oils, jewellery and so on, and wonderful images of different kinds of jewellery which give you a better sense of how the ancient Egyptians lived than some of the other temples do. You can also see the original nilometer, which brought water to the temple - you can see Nile water at the end of it. For the best view of the front pylon, visit in the late afternoon, when the sun makes it golden.
Getting to the temple, though, is horrible. Apparently, during the revolution, the carriage drivers stormed the temple visitors centre and managed to close it for a day, with the result that they now have the full monopoly on transport to the temples. That means carriage is the only way to get to the temple, and our carriage was dirty and smelly and the horse looked on its last legs - an upsetting and draining experience. They've also managed to secure a compulsory tip of 10 Egyptian pounds per person, in addition to what the cruise ship pays on your behalf. It's not much money, of course, but I resented the sense that it was basically a bribe to stop them hassling you for more tips. These transport issues didn't affect our enjoyment of the temple, but I thought it was worth mentioning it so others know what to expect when getting there.

We docked at Edfu temple during the day, looked around the temple and returned to the Light and Sound Show in the evening.
The show was very good and told the story very well.
Would definitely recommend it.

We were on a tour with a guide and this stop was part of our Nile cruise component which was much easier than the felucca/overland version the other half of our party did. Caleche was absolutely scary and felt very unsafe with horses in poor condition, mainly in order to extract baksheesh. The temple of Horus is simply amazing. Totally loved it. Fabulous entrance, loved the statues of Horus at the front of the temple, the little side temple with Nut on the ceiling, the engraved silver boat in the inner chamber and the carvings down the stairs; excellent.
