Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great place to stay. Ruined by day trippers emptying portaloos down toilets and blocking them. Happens every day. Just watched 3 of them. Now blocked.
Third time we have stayed here. Love it.

Camp for a few days or just make a day trip of it from Yeppoon. Waterpark Creek is a must see in the Byfield National Park. We forgot to bring lunch with us on this day so we headed down to Ferns Hideaway for a bite and it was fantastic.

Great spot albeit a 1/2 hr drive from Yeppoon, think locals use it as a party spot as both nights we stayed there was hooning & loud music, get a site away from the day use area to avoid this.

There are camping and day use areas here. We used the day use area and did one of walks through the rainforest here. There are plants that can only be found in the Byfield National Park. The waterhole is great for cooling off on a hot day.

Driving in on a late afternoon, the little patch of rainforest that is where we will be spending the next 3 days comes into view. We drive around the road and notice the sites are clearly marked. Ours is the last on the loop.

We were pleasantly surprised to find a non potable (not for drinking) water tap right at our site. We also have the largest of all 10 sites available.

We camped here for 3 nights for the Australia Day weekend. So the weekend was quite busy with people heading to Five Rocks for the day.

The sites are beautifully shaded with rainforest. Most are walk-in tent sites and they are generally grassed. There are only 2 suitable for camper trailers and only site 10 would be suitable for a caravan. Site 6 is the other one but the driveway is narrow and is on the wrong side of the fire so our friends had to push their camper to face the fire place. Site 10 could hold 2 campers or caravans. There is non potable water taps in most of the camp sites. There is also flushing toilets. But they are also used for the day trippers.

The are also has a BBQ, flushing toilets, grasses areas and shelter sheds with tables and chairs.

Wildlife is everywhere. Bush turkeys will eat your food if it’s not secured. You will hear lots of birds including kookaburras. And we were even woken up by a random rooster. Also had a wondering Goanna looking for food.

There is Byfield store up the road which does yummy food. They also have some great basics including fuel, gas, limited grocery items, milk and some local produce and local arts and crafts. Also thongs, hats and sarongs. Lucky they sold thongs as mine broke on Australia Day and that’s the only pair of shoes I packed.

Waterpark Creek is close to Stoney Creek and Red Rock which have good swimming and is at the entrance on to Five Rocks and Nine Mile Beach (4x4 only). See my other review on Five Rocks and Nine Mile. There are also great places to eat out including Ferns Hideaway, the Byfield Cafe the Ranch Bar & Grill.

We camped at Red Rock last Australia Day long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. We loved this weekend as well so will be back!

Access is via a dirt road & you cross the causeway over the creek. It’s beautiful & peaceful. Surrounding vegetation is rainforest & there are plants & wildlife that can only be found in the Byfield area.
We camped at Waterpark Creek- there is a day use area & a campground on opposite side of access road. Suitable for 2wd vehicles.
This area was very quiet with few visitors & it was school holidays!
There are a number of other campgrounds in the area & we checked them all out - but this was our favourite.
Facilities are spotlessly clean & grounds well tended. BBQs are free & there are toilets - no showers & no bins (take all your rubbish with you).
Thoroughly recommend a visit!
