I went here for an overnight camp with friends when I lived in Fort Dauphin. You have to charter a 4x4 and hire the driver for the time you are there, and pay for his meals etc. Also you have to bring your own food and water so I suggest a jerry can for every two/three of you. Also remember... More

Wonderful beach, virtually deserted. Travelled there by motorboat and 4x4, enjoying great views en route. Stayed at Camp Pirate, which was basic, but set in beautiful and exceptionally peaceful surroundings. Cyril, the chef provided by Camp Pirate, cooked us three fantastic meals. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

This was my highlight of Fort Dauphin. I stayed at Pirate Camp with friends and it was such a great weekend. The food was amazing, and the beach was a 5 minute walk away - gorgeous and peaceful and not full of tourists. There is a mountain nearby that we explored where you can get beautiful views of Lokaro Beach,... More

The trip to lokaro is very special and expensive but well worth the trip. We saw gorgeous views and beaches. The boat ride was very sweet. We did have rain and I would not recommend going when it's his bad weather or windy. It was very difficult to see the level of poverty in the village that you must walk... More

This beach is truly unbelievable. It is difficult to get to, but it is well worth it. The beach is normally deserted other than a few fishers. There is an island you can walk over to and snorkel around. I just can't describe how beautiful it is. Just stunning.

Just the most perfect beach and aspect. The tide comes in from both side nearly cutting off the island off the point. Camp Pirate is simple but clean and as others have said seafood can be bought from the locals at unbelievable prices...oysters, crabs, sea urchins are straight off the rocks.... the chef at Camp Pirate was excellent. It's takes... More

Lokaro beach is about one hours drive from the coastal town of Fort Dauphin , and a must visit when you are in the area. Back packers can walk from Fort Dauphin to Lokaro along Shipwreck beach , or a trip by pirogue can be arranged through a travel agent in Fort Dauphin . Once on the beach at Lokaro... More

Superb landscapes. Nothing bad. The hotel Croix du Sud owners proposed this excursion and organised it so well. Boat trip was safe. Dinner on their location was super.

Lokaro beach is in the Lonely Planet as one of the top beaches in the world and i agree. Just bear in mind it is isolated and you at least need a 4x4 to get there. There are no amenities or anything available apart form what you can buy from the local villagers on the beach. It is perfect when... More
