- JazyukWest Pennant Hills, Australia13 contributionsThank you Ross..!!So its Australia Day 2024, my brother is over for his Birthday and it happens to be his 50th, my Birthday was the day before but as I was born in the UK (in the evening which would've been Australia Day in Oz) its still my birthday.. It was a 40 degree day and we went to see Ross as our last stop and a winery we haven't visited, ever.. What a lovely surprise, Ross is a genuine character, we had lots of fun and most importantly we see why James Halliday highly rates their wines. The Hunter has become very commercial over the years and hugely expensive, spending time with lesser known wineries is a must so I highly encourage you to visit this little gem ASAP.Thank you for your incredible review. We are so glad you enjoyed your experience! We hope you had the best Birthday!!! Ross is one of the best I will pass your review onto him.Written 28 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 28 January 2024
- John RCincinnati, Ohio23 contributionsA Tasting at lunchtime.A lovely variety of easy drinking Whites. Semillon, Chardonnay and GewurzTraminer. They grow Shiraz grapes and make a medium body Shiraz wines in lower volumes. On some years they actually make a lovely small run CabernetVisited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 May 2024

Went with a group of 13 friends and Ann was very patient answering all of our questions! I liked how it wasn’t like some other wine tastings you go to where they give you one fact about the wine & then leave you just to drink it. Would definitely recommend if you actually want to learn about what you’re tasting :)Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 19 June 2024

Lesley was so informative and helpful to us with tasting techniques. The wines were delightful, we purchased a few. Definately make a stop on your next wine trip.Visited October 2024Travelled with familyWritten 20 October 2024
- Yen R1 contributionGreat experience! The wine tasting was a great experience and the wine selection was varied but all to our liking. Enjoyed the sweet wines most. Anne walked us through all of it, throwing in he humour and hints of personality of the team behind the winery. Kudos to the team!Visited November 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 November 2024

A compact vineyard with a wine tasting house.
Beautiful scenery with a few kangaroos thrown in for visitors from overseas.
The staff are polite, well informed and helpful.
The vineyard has won many awards and the selection of wines are good.
As the wines are not sold outside the estate, one has to purchase a bottle or two at the winery.
As the winery was first in our tour, the tastings stand out for their quality and brilliance.
The polite, helpful and friendly fellow travelers were a mixed bunch from across the world.

On a boutique wine tour last year, this was the favourite of our random group. Taking a few days to relax in the Hunter before Christmas, I visited solo today. A return visit did not disappoint.
The cellar door was staffed by Lesley, who was welcoming, and very knowledgeable and passionate on Ernest Hill and wine making - taking time to highlight the history of the region more broadly as well as the winery itself. Lesley showcased a great line up of white, red and dessert wines - I even liked the Chardonnay and Merlot (the only two wine varieties I typically dislike).
Certainly recommended if you’re looking for an excellent smaller producer with some great wines at very reasonable prices.

Daniel was a great guide to our first vineyard stop. Ernest Hill is small, but they produce a lovely variety of wines and have a real family feel to their establishment. Appreciated the quick intro to wine tasting, and the friendliness of the staff; was even able to taste a seasonal holiday dessert wine on top of our set tasting - sweet touch!

Absolutely beautiful wine and amazing people. Never had better experience. The owner told many stories about wine and looked like he knew what he was doing. Amazing day and awesome fun while we tasted wine. A lots of laugh. I tasted a lots of wine but this one was even more delicious, don’t know why, good company probably.

What an amazing hour we got to have there. Treated like kings and queens by the lovely Lesley who gave up a story to each wine and a excellent demonstration of how to drink wine as we insisted on being ‘wine snobs’. Left with a dozen bottles and will be back for more!

Thanks Neville for such a fun and knowledgeable wine tasting experience. We all loved the history behind Ernest Hill, their wines and the region, but even more impressive was the fact that you just brought out one amazing wine after the other. Well done Ernest Hill!

We came to Ernest Hills as part of a wine tour and the presentation was absolutely incredible. The wines our group were presented with were exceptional and it was so informative learning how the wines were created and what types of food would go well with each wine. At the end of the day, most people agreed that their favourite wine of the day came from Ernest Hill. Thank you so much for your incredible work, it was much appreciated.

Ernst Hill Wines was one of if not the highlight of our wine tasting tour following a tech conference in Sydney. There was something so peaceful and picturesque about the venue, nestled amidst acres of grapes, with wild kangaroos hopping hither and tither as we drove up in our van.
The wine tasting session was well orchestrated by our vigneron, Ross Wilson, as we sat comfortably outside in a screened area. Attractive upright wooden barrels supported our glasses. Some of the low production wines were legitimately award-winning and, to no surprise, exceptional; and many in the group purchased bottles to bring back to the States and to drink back at the hotel.
I would definitely recommend this wonderful winery not only for the taste of its premium produce but also for the relaxing, thoroughly enjoyable experience of drinking directly from the source.

Heading to the Hunter valley area, 100% visit here. They are a small winery but add their very own touch to their wines and experience.
We came here on the Taste Of The Hunter Wine Tour and it so lush. The view is unreal looking over a little lake and the vines they use for the wines. Anne was our wine expert, she talked us through different information and why wines can taste different from each other (when they are picked, sugar, acid etc). She definitely help me for my choice on future wine picking.
