It is well worth the climb up to this lookout point above the town of Salento.
It is reached by a long set of steps, not overly taxing if you take your time but at this high altitude, it can leave you a bit breathless. But there are benches along the way to rest on and landings at regular intervals to give to a break from the steps.
At the top, the Lookout point is very grim and dilapidated, not very well kept. There are no facilites or cafes except a hawker selling water and a few trinket sellers.
But the view down to the town is great so it's worth a visit.

In this lovely little town, this is where the "action" is, since this is a tranquil place for a relaxing week-end. At one end is Plaza Bolivar (aka Plaza Principal) with the old church, statue of Bolivar, and town hall. As you walk the four blocks towards the overlook, you will pass wonderful stores with all kinds of local handicrafts (articles in wood, beads and bamboo are popular), hotels and restaurants with colorful, freshly painted facades, and the neighbors out for a stroll. At the end are a couple hundred stairs leading to the overlook, which is well worth the 10 minutes' climb, At the top you'll find a beautiful view, the local con man with his "house-always-wins" game. and his daughter selling cold drinks. If you are in Salento, this walk is a MUST! After that, you can go back down and enjoy a treat in one of the excellent local cafes (I recommend Cafe Jesus Martin, only a few blocks away.)

This is a landmark viewpoint. From one side you can see the valley and to the other side you can see Salento. You get there through the main road and climbing 200+ stairs. Weekends can be very crowdy. As I was staying near, I went early in the morning and it was great with few people.

Good idea to have this staircase linking the center of Salento with a ridge from where you have a nice view on the foothills of Los Nevados. Many people during the day and souvenir shops at this mirador. If you walk a bit further towards the east, there are hardly any people and the view is almost as good. Towards the west there is another mirador that can also be reached by car or bus with even more souvenir stalls.

Both miradors are connected by a small path. Fabio from Casa Borbon suggested that I do the mirador with mountain view first and cut across a path to go to the other mirador (with city view) so that I didn't have to climb the staircases first and instead would take the staircase down to the village from the second mirador. Great suggestion. You can see both miradors in a couple of hours or less and views are amazing especially if it's a clear day.

It is worth walking up the stairs to look over the town, but don’t expect an enjoyable place to sit to watch the sunset like we did. The entire top of the hill looks like a project that’s been forgotten. There used to be food stalls or a cafe that has fallen into disrepair. There are barricades and trenches dug, so something is happening up there. Walk up for a view over Salento but you will not find a parklike atmosphere up there. At least not at this time.

Walk from the main square up and take in the wonderful shops that line the route upto the mirador. If you decide to do the trek it gives you a great glimpse into what to expect.
Very sweet look out, worth a look. It's free and only take 10 minutes to walk upto the top

Salento is a very small town, but this has a great variety of crafts shops and a viewpoint. Leaving from Armenia, You have to go to the bus terminal, and take a bus to Salento; taking 1:30 hours on the road and its price ranges from 4,000 to 6,000 Colombian Pesos. The bus leaves you in the center of Salento where is the Church "Nuestra Señora Del Carmen" which you can visit and take photos, and on the outside usually there is always a craft fair where you can find from clothes until presents to give to someone later. To go up to the viewpoint there are some stairs or if you prefer there is an easier path through the streets. In the viewpoint you can taste the famous Obleas and Solteritas.
It is advisable to go when it doesn’t rain because I went in April and it rained almost all day, you should wear comfortable clothes, sports shoes and coat. On the streets there is a little donkey in which you can ride and take pictures with all the Colombian’s accessories, but it’s only until 5pm. For lunch in Salento, I recommend the restaurant “La Gata Carola”, as they give a very good service; it is a restaurant with home cooking. Especially, I recommend you to taste the Ajiaco. At the end of the day and get off the viewpoint you can drink a red coffee. Salento itself is a place to make trips with family.

15-25 minute walk up to see the Valle of cocora. Worth it because it's free. There's an easier way up or take the 350 stairs straight up...

The two miradores or viewpoints are connected via a short walkway. One mirador is overviewing the Cocora valley and the other is overlooking Salento. Beautiful views on both of them

We have just arrived in salento and I wondered if the stalls and shops would be open tomorrow on Sunday if we went up to the Mirador to see the views? Also any tours you recommend we are here for 3 days
