Description:

Brighton City Airport is the UK's oldest fully operational licensed aerodrome and remains at the forefront of general aviation in this country. Built in 1934, the Art-Deco Terminal Building is Grade II* listed and is still in everyday use by business, training and pleasure flyers alike including many visitors from Europe. Many of the fixtures are original including the Whispering Gallery on the first floor and the main window design above the main entrance. In addition to aviation, the airport has also appeared in a number of high profile films, such as the Da Vinci Code, Poirot and more recently as Vienna Airport in the Woman in Gold, starring Dame Helen Mirren. During the summer of 2015, the airport played host to the inaugural Wild Life music festival, with headline acts such as Mark Ronson and Rudimental. The event also won the Best New Festival award in 2015 and brought significant benefits to the local economy. The Terminal Building also houses the Hummingbird Restaurant which includes an outdoor seating area where the whole airfield can be viewed. The Terminal Building underwent an external renovation to take it back to its former glory, which was completed in 2015.

A nice place to stop and watch the aircraft activities on the apron. The building is interesting and you can see why it has been used for many films and TV.

I've visited Shoreham Airport for many years, including renewing my PPL. In recent years it's tended to be more of a visit when passing, for some refreshment or lunch. Parking used to be free, but in 2017 the charge for 1 hr has increased by 50% Funny how inflation is around 2% everywhere except car parks..... I object to this... More

I reviewed this several years ago and was not very complimentary. Since then the restaurant has been refurbished and is now a very nice place to go. It is possible to sit out in the summer and try to spot an aeroplane as it is not very busy in the week, but unfortunately last time we sat out it was... More

Lovely Art Deco building, good service and good choice of food and drinks. Been before in the summer and it's a great place to sit outside and enjoy a drink and food.

This is the oldest airport in the UK. However it is now basically an average cafe with a few photographs. And a view of private small planes of course. What a lost opportunity. Also watch out for the car parking. Run by a separate company , you may easily find yourself the recipient of a £60 fine ! Will not... More

I have been visiting Shoreham's wonderful Art Deco airport for many years and was looking forward to renewing my acquaintance today, after some years. Sadly, from being a wonderful Art Deco airport with a small and friendly restaurant it has become a large (and not especially good) restuarant overlooking an airfield. I should he been warned when I got to... More

Really friendly museum right next to the terminal building. Staffed by knowledgeable people who love avaition and the history of the airport. Plenty of old photos and wonderful stories. Well worth a visit before watching the planes from the cafe next door inside the Art Deco terminal.

A very interesting location, lots to see inside or watch plane/helicopters outside. It has a very good cafe and if you are a dare devil you can book a flight

Other half went for a flying lesson. I had a wonder and a drink in the bar. Fantastic 1930s Art Deco setting great decor and detail. Not dog friendly but allowed to sit outside main eating area and could see planes landing. Lovely
