This is a great little town in western Guizhou that doesn't see as many tourists as other places in in the country. I had a great time walking along the winding river, watching life go by, eating some yummy street snacks and just generally taking it slow.

I was pleasantly surprised with this great little town, and Guizhou province in general. Very picturesque place straddling both sides of a river. Architecture is like a lot you see in China's old towns but the setting makes it really nice. Great for walking on either side and with shops, small bars, and restaurants scattered throughout. In the evening when... More

Yes it did take us while to get here, but the scenery was worth it. This small village offered a nice getaway from the normal metropolis. If you managed to pick the hotel right the night view and the natural beauty like no other. During the locals are coming to the middle of the central bridge and play flutes, drums... More

Zhengyuan old town is both ancient and stunningly beautiful both day and night. The Wuyang River runs through the center of this town and there are several lovely bridges that connects the two sides together. The atmosphere in this small town is very relaxed and easy going - there is no hoards of people or heavy traffic like the big... More

Walking through the quiet, beautiful, alleys of Zhengyuan's Old Town was the highlight of our trip to Guizhou Province. Every turn presented a new vista of an extremely well preserved and maintained part of this ancient Ming Dynasty town. It is such a contrast to the noisy Main Street. Hosting unique family restaurants and places to board it will provide... More

This ancient Ming dynasty town was called the Far Away town, or the Hidden Town. It is indeed far away and nested in a deep valley north east of Kaili. Despite a very touristic side, the architecture remains stunning and some ancient courtyard homes can be visited. At night, all the waterside houses are lit, as well as the antique... More

Give it an one day. Arrive at around 4. Watch the sunset, Go see the lights. very picturesque. Proceed to the night life. A lot goes on. Wake up early morning, watch the sunrise when you hike. Its free to get up the mountain. It may look poor because of the dense misty clouds. Don't lose hope. the views are... More

This old town was very important in history because of its special location, it's easy to hold but hard to attack. It's said that if you want to go to Yunnan or Guizhou province, here is the only way; if you want to control Yunnan or Hubei province, you must occupy here first. Now you still can find many buildings... More

This place blew us away. It's so beautiful. It's like walking into a Chinese painting. It's so tranquil and quiet and offers the most amazing riverside promenade shaded by willows. Plenty of restaurants and bars and shops. The setting is just amazing.... The buildings beautiful. The best bit starts after dark when the entire river lights up with ever changing... More

Although it's quite commercialised with many souvenir shops at both sides of the street, it's still not crowded with tourists by the time I visited, which is 6 July, 2015. Local food were delicious and cheap. Locals were friendly. Trasportation were convenient. The most important thing is that you can see real 1940s buildings and conservative-living locals up high on... More
