About
We are an innovative Islay distillery producing unpeated Bruichladdich, heavily peated Port Charlotte and super-heavily peated Octomore single malt whiskies. We use a wide range of barley types, including organic and bere, grown on a variety of terroirs including Islay. We also distill The Botanist gin. Mary at the Laddieshop will be glad to organise a tour of our distillery for you and the distilling team will happily answer any questions you may have.

- SKG109Orinda, California1,117 contributionsOne of the better distillery tours! We were fortunate to have Ingie as our tour guide. She is a natural story teller and Bruichladdich has a lot of stories to tell. After having done three distillery tours earlier, I wasn’t expecting much but the tour was educational and interesting. It was Saturday and so there was no production and that may have given us more freedom to explore and understand. Highly recommended.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 September 2023
- Paul C.Cornwall, United Kingdom8 contributionsVery enjoyable tourStaying locally this was the tour of choice and was very pleased. Ashley was a very engaging and informative host, there was as much time as everyone needed for questions and it was followed by a generous tasting session at the end. Highly enjoyable and recommended.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 September 2023
- JJM1440Scotland, United Kingdom49 contributionsExceptional - first class experienceWent to Bruichladdich on Sunday for a 'standard' distillery tour. And it ended up being so much more! The place itself is simply stunning. So much of the original Victorian architecture and equipment remains, which is extremely charming. And the well known Bruichladdich blue is all over! Catriona was our guide and it's difficult to do justice how good she was! Extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and made it an extremely fun and engaging experience. We lucked out on our visit as we ended up in the warehouse for an impromptu tasting instead of back at the Laddie Shop where it normally happens - and rest assured when we return, a booked warehouse tasting at Bruichladdich will now be a MUST! Aboslutely loved it. Can't wait to come back.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 27 September 2023
- Ianmp1Prescot, United Kingdom28 contributionsWhisky tasting experience to savour.I visited the distillery with two friends to take part in the warehouse tasting experience. We were part of a group of 14 who were taken to one of the dunnage warehouses to sample cask drawn whisky nit available outside of the distillery. We were led through the tasting experience by Catriona who was highly knowledgeable, funny and passionate about the whisky and her distillery. We were given the opportunity to draw our own sample direct from the cask which added to the authenticity of the experience. Sitting in the cold, dank dunnage warehouse was central to the experience. The distillery provided a presentation box with glass and containers for the samples of whisky. Having attended many whisky tasting experiences, I can say that this was one of the best. Great whisky, beautifully staged with one of the most competent whisky guides I have had the pleasure of listening to. Brilliant way to explore Islay whisky with friends or on your own.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 4 October 2023
- Jackie RGlasgow, United Kingdom1 contributiongin cocktail making and testing masterclassWe thoroughly enjoyed the gin cocktail class hosted by Sam. She was knowledgeable and had some great stories about the history of the distillery and its owners. We had fun making and drinking the gin cocktails and leaning about the gin and the 22 locally sourced botanical. Thanks for the local insights in to Islay wildlife- this was an added bonus.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 October 2023
- edinmike82Edinburgh, United Kingdom135 contributionsGreat tour and tastingHad a great experience here on the standard distillery tour. Our tour guide Ash gave us a thorough history of the place as well as many anecdotes from her time there which had a nice personal feeling rather than a sense of coming from a script. We enjoyed 3 drams at the end with optional takeaway if you are driving. The shop has a tasting bar allowing you to try before you buy as well. Thanks for a great experience!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 October 2023
- Chris9876543212 contributionsSo good we did two tours. We booked for the warehouse cask tour which was excellent, with the opportunity to draw your own dram from the cask. Only downside being it's quite chilly at this time of year so I'd recommend dressing warmly. We then went back around on the distillery tour to see where the whiskey we'd sampled was made. The tour was very enjoyable with just the right balance of information and entertaining history. It's good to see a distillery keeping so much of its process on the island. I haven't entioned the whiskey as it's speaks for itself and I really can't do it justice!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- mcscary1Paisley, United Kingdom93 contributionsUnique drams in a warehouse settingA warehouse tasting by Sam and Ashley is well worth booking. Whilst you can book a tour of the distillery, this was a tasting set in a Victorian warehouse surrounded by numerous casks. Thee we perfect setting. A history and tales of the site along with some excellent drams unique to the distillery and not for sale made for a great afternoon. A brilliant afternoon by two excellent staff members and a credit to the distillery in the way they presented the those fine drams .Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 16 November 2023

Very knowledgeable people at the Visitor Center and had a wonderful tasting experience. We did not take a tour, but walked around and also picked up items at the distillery store. I would definitely recommend.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 30 November 2023
- Cafe Breve5 contributionsTasty and InformativeLoved the Warehouse Experience here just yesterday. Our young guide, Ruby, was quite knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Bruichladdich line (and others), happily answering our group's many questions. The gift shop had an excellent selection of tastefully designed and high quality branded products at reasonable prices in addition to their whiskys and The Botanist gins for sale. Bruichladdich was also one of few distilleries open for tastings and tours so soon after the Christmas and New Year holidays.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 January 2024

Visited Bruichladdie for a whisky tasting experience on our 3 day break to Islay. Our host, Calum made us very welcome and was very knowledgable and enthusiastic about whisky and the distillery. I have been to other distilleries for similar experiences and came away from this one having learnt even more. The atmosphere was very relaxed and he took time to answer questions in detail. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would certainly recommend at least a visit to the distillery as they have some nice merchandise over and above the whisky. If your going for a tasting though suggest you book in advance though as spaces book up quickly but that’s not just at this distillery. Thanks again to Calum and his colleagues for a great time.

When on holiday in Islay I visited the distillery and decided to try the warehouse tasting in order to learn about the history of Bruichladdich, learn some new things about whisky in general….and most importantly try some drams that I wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to sample.
The tasting was led by Callum who is extremely knowledgeable and kept it fun; he is great at engaging with the party. We got to try whisky from the distillery’s brands and learn what makes them different from each other but each great in their own way. For a distillery so rich in history, it is amazing how it evolved to keep its own unique charm.
This distillery has something for everyone and even has a stunning Botanist gin bar which my wife enjoyed.
After the tasting I spent some time in the shop and the staff helped me chose a few souvenir bottles, which I believe are reasonably priced for the quality.
I also purchased a book about a local person’s life experience growing up on the island and was lucky enough to be served by the author. Thank you Mary for signing the book which I will treasure.
I visited all of the Islay distillerys and Bruichladdich was my favourite experience. The style and charm of the distillery is unrivalled, and the staff are some of the best on the island.

The gin tasting experience was incredible. The lady gave a talk about the history of the distillery as well as gave everyone a gin at the beginning. We later watched two cocktails being made then made the same ones ourselves. Great value for your money and well worth doing if you like gin.
This was the cocktail experience for £30.

We have been on a number of distillery tours in the past but Bruichladdich beat them all. Ruby, our excellent guide, did a great job of explaining the process of whisky making from grain to bottle. She was very knowledgeable and witty. It was great to see some very old pieces of machinery still in use after many years. Seeing inside a warehouse full of whisky casks was like stepping back in time. The whisky tasting at the end was great and, as I was a designated driver, I was given 'drivers drams' to take away. The shop sells very tasteful items in addition to the whisky. Bruichladdich distillery also makes Botanist gin so it was interesting to hear about that process too. All in all a great visit and very reasonable at £10 per person. I would definitely recommend this tour.

One of the best tasting experiences ever.
Callum, our guide, was incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about whisky and the distillery, and he made the overall experience fun and pleasant.
The tasting lasts 1 hour and a half and we got to taste three different versions of Bruichladdich (Laddie, Port Charlotte, and Octomore) straight from the cask, each a unique expression of the distillery's character.
An absolute must if you're touring Islay.

Booked a warehouse tour which included a short walk into the cask warehouse where we were provided an engraved tasting glass and three driver drams along with a bottle of water. We were treated to an informal discussion about whisky and encouraged to share our own thoughts. Ruby led our group and encouraged audience participation by asking for volunteers to withdraw samples from the casks and distribute to the group. After “giving it a nose” and a taste, we shared our thoughts and then proceeded to the next cask. The only downside for me was the Octomore, my personal favorite, was “overaged” at 12 years and not up to par with others I’ve had. Still highly recommend the experience.

Despite being 15 mins late for the warehouse tasting the staff were brilliant , i phoned ahead to explain our situation and they allowed us to join the other people just after they sat down to start .
This is a great option if you want more than a tour and get to the core of the distilleries ethos ,we tasted 3 drams drawn from barrels by hand 1 each from their range ( Bruichladdich,Port Charlotte,Octomore)
Each was very different to the previous , increasing in peat strength , great explanation from the tour guide of each and a emphasis on the group (10people) asking questions and talking to each other to get the most out of the session.
The session didn't feel rushed or weighed down with needless explanations ,and so it passed fairly quickly and we all left with a much greater understanding of the distillery and its variety .
Finished in the shop by filling a bottle myself from a cask of 366 max bottles , so something that i could only get there and really ended the time on a high .
Definitely want to come back and see more of the site and the other things on offer for the visitor ,
Great location , great staff and really great whiskey ,already looking forward to going again!!!!!

Had a great tour of the distillery delivered by Shannon. She certainly knew her stuff and made us feel welcome, particularly with a 10 month old with us. Had a great tasting after and tried their gin aswell!

I’ve done a number of whisky tastings over the years, but the warehouse tasting at Bruichladdich is a cut above. Three superb cask strength expressions - a Bruichladdich, a Port Charlotte and an Octomore which aren’t available anywhere else were sampled. They were presented with great knowledge and humour by our host Calum in an atmospheric warehouse setting. He and his colleagues in the shop are a credit to the distillery. You get a warm welcome and a chance to sample superb whisky in a friendly and hospitable atmosphere. I would thoroughly recommend the experience.

Do you offer gin tours in October? I couldn’t book anything on the website ☹️
Thanks

Also.. this years schedules for most places on islay aren’t usually up until sometime in February. Reach out directly to them though. You may not need to use the online booking system when the schedule goes live.

What are the prices like for bottles in the shop compared to online or on the high street?
Are samples available to try (or buy)?
Thanks in advance!

Just go and enjoy!

Hi, I was really interested to read that you visited 8 of the distilleries and would like to find out how to go about visiting them all. There are only two of us and we'd prefer not to drive (for obvious reasons) The only tours of them all I can find are 4 or 5 day long stays. Is there a tour which would take us round them all in 1-2 days or can it be done by public transport? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. Janice (planning to go next summer)
