We had the pleasure of joining this whale watching trip on 02/10/23. The booking was simple, and the staff were really helpful. Throughout the trip we were told interesting facts and it was obvious that the team took great care not to disturb the whales natural environment but still able for us to get great views and interaction. Loved it. :)

Have just completed our eigth season with Hervey Bay whale watch “Quick Cat 2 “and what a fantastic season it has been.
My husband and I are weekly patrons for the season, on board “quick cat” and again we were not disappointed it was amazing.
Big thanks to Skippers Josh, Sam Steve and Damien, fellas you excelled yourselves as usual in showcasing these amazing mammals in their environment and showing us as many pods as possible each trip we went into bay, there were no shortage of whales from start of season in July to our last trip on 15th October.
The “Quick cat” is purpose built for whale watching so there is plenty of room to move around the vessel and as there are different levels, you can go as high or as low as you wish.
The skippers have an extensive knowledge of humpback behaviours and are very informative, excellent for school excursions, I still learn something new on our trips after eight years.
There is plenty of food and drinks on offer and the girls in the galley Sophie, Liberty, Meg, Chelsea, Shayla do a great job in providing morning and afternoon teas ensuring everyone has plenty of refreshments and food on offer.
I can’t forget the rest of the crew Radim, Luke and Mitch who are always available on deck to answer any questions and assist everyone in general.
We chose Hervey Bay whale watch when we first moved into the area, and we are so glad we did. A family-owned business and I must say they go over and above to ensure patrons have the best experience each and every cruise during the season.
I must not forget the ladies in the office Lindy, Kate, Mandy, Jenny, Alicia who are extremely helpful when you are booking.
We have experienced some amazing interactions over the years, and I am sharing some highlights from this season.
I highly recommend Hervey Bay Whale watch “Quick Cat 2” for whale watching I have never been disappointed on any of our cruises over the last 8 years.

I'm so glad we choose this company for our one of a kind experience.
From the minute we were booking to the time we were dropped back to our starting point was purely amazing.
The captain was so understanding with my son who has special needs and involved him in the captaining experience.
We got to see heaps of whales up close.
The trip we booked included a visit and lunch on Fraser Island which was very lovely.
I can see why this family business has been running for so long as they truly care about their passengers and go above and beyond to make sure it's a day you'll remember forever.

Very organised tour, boat was spacious, clean and in good condition. It was a bit windy when we went so if you get sea sick suggest taking tablets before going, we did and we're fine. They did also let us know about the conditions in advance. Afternoon tea was great, included fruit, biscuits and cake as well as tea, coffee and juice. Had plenty of sightings of different pods. Captain was very knowledgeable and good at getting us close enough for good sightings without disturbing the whales. Wonderful tour, would highly recommend!

If I could give 0 stars I would!
Ive been on several whale watching boats in Hervey Bay but never this company.
If you enjoy seeing whales from 2 kilometres away or own really good binoculars while every other boat around us approached the whales at a safe and appropriate distance then pick this boat!
The so called fruit and biscuit platters were gone in 2 minutes, so if you waited patiently for the line to ease then forget morning tea.
The captain spoke very little about the whales and as soon as he caught site of one the engine shut off so we were as far as possible away and we then all fought to get a look at what I believe was possibly a whale.
Im not sure theres any more to say except choose another company.

Amazing experience with many whale pods spotted. We got up close and personal with breaching splashing and cruising whales in their natural habitat. The boat was superb staff were friendly and informative. We had a great day. The extension to have lunch on K'gari was well worth the extra. However you do return to river heads and catch the shuttle bus back to the marina in Hervey Bay.

When the best time to see the whales
Hervey Bay Whale Watch & Charters
Hervey Bay, Australia
Anytime between mid July and October you will see whales in Hervey Bay. Early in the season we tend to get juvenile whales, which are followed around mid August/September with mothers and calves, followed by adult males in October. As each trip is unique it is very hard to say when is the best time. We hope this helps.
I am in Harvey bay is now a good time to see the whales or should I leave it till September cheers Kerry

Hervey Bay, Australia
Hi Kerry,
It is a good time to see the whales although very early in the season, The whales we are seeing at the moment are juveniles, whereas in September we usually have mothers and calves in the bay. You could always do both :)

I'll be in Hervey Bay mid September and especially interested in adding the swimming option. What are the chances of swimming with the whales at that time?
Hervey Bay Whale Watch & Charters
Hervey Bay, Australia
Hi John,
We have been running the swim option for the last 3 years and mainly swims are possible with the sub-adults whales which are generally in the Bay earlier in the season July/August. In September we often have mothers and calves and swims are not possible when there are calves in the pods. However in saying that, each trip is different and we did have a few swims last year in September and October. Sorry we cant be more definite but its very dependant on the whales on the day.
