We took 3 grandchildren to the Local Shack at Hillarys, this evening, very disappointing chips mushy and only just warm, kids fish & chips was an insult to kids and when I asked for napkins as there were 4 pick up meals only 2 were given.
Never again will we go there.

Parking is a nightmare but once inside it is really good. Great selection of restaurants and the blow up wet play area for the kids is first class.

A good spot to swim with the kids. It is a nice and easy entry to the water with no waves to make things hard.

Most shops were closed. The food was disgusting. Used nappy in carpark. The whole place is dirty and old.

First visit to Hillarys and enjoyed it very much. Weather was wet and windy but much of the boardwalk was under cover so it didn't slow us down much. Also an adjacent sheltered beach. Great spot to watch the boats in the harbour, and lots of parking. Quiet during the day and a bit busier at night, I suspect it would be more crowded on the weekend.

We visited here on our son's recommendation and we were glad we did. The wharf is surrounded by many shops, cafes, restaurants and bars and there is lots of variety to choose from if you are intending to eat here. There is a small beach area which they were lightly dredging at the time we were there. We stopped off for a beer tasting paddle at 3 Sheets where we sat at the window and could see right out to the harbour. There s something for everyone here.

interesting, large shopping, food district in the boat harbour
close to Perth, next to a great safe swimming beach
plenty of shops, very interesting
some entertainment but
They recently started playing music (in public) by a local DJ whom I shall not name (The Count) whose music is just much too loud for the area
It has driven us away several times now and not planning to go back until he stops with his excessive noise
Pitty because there are some good restaurants, but then again there is good food at other places too
How far do they have to hear the noise? across the road, the next suburb?
And the worst is the subwoofer boom box which contributes nothing to the music experience but gives people an anxiety attack
Anyone can play music loud
it takes an expert to play it just right for the chosen audience
You are ignorant "Count"

The Boat harbour is a great retreat on a hot day or a rainy waters night. Most of the main walk ways are covered. Throw on a jacket on a cold night & off you go. There are plenty of cafes & coffee sops scattered around, as well as some fine restaurants. Great family environment.

This harbour offers a great fishing platform for many a Fisher.
The rock wall is usually full of fisherman lined up all the wall to the end. You can usually also see children on the concrete platform inside the harbour.
This is a good place to let the kids have a fish whilst you fetch a coffee from one of the cafes situated on the Boardwalk.

We do get a lot of fishers at Hillarys and is suited to families of all ages. While the rock wall is more suited to older children the Jetty behind AQWA is safer option for families of young children. With Allycats coffee shop at the end of the jetty, your cuppa is just a few steps away :)

The atmosphere is family friendly and a free movie was held on the boardwalk if you wished to sit and enjoy. Food outlets were plentiful and plenty of choices for an ice cream to follow up.
Families were enjoying a swim close by as it was a very warm evening.
No need to be lonely, come down and people watch and soak up the atmosphere. Even tho very busy, parking was not a problem for us.

The easiest way to Hillarys is by public transport. Take the Joondalup line traib towards Bulter at the Perth Underground Station. Stop at Warrick station then take the 423 bus. This bus will terninate right at Hillarys. The teip will take avout 1.5 hrs.
Going back will be the same route.
If you are travelling as a family, buy the fanily all day ticket which will cost you just more than $11.
