Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stopped for a short visit ,approx 1 hour.Had a general walk around on the ground level.Such a lovely place. It appeared to be a favourite spot for mountain bikers and hikers ,judging by what we saw.It was getting later in the day and most were packing up to leave.Saw picnic and BBQ spots and a few people horseriding .There is a working farm here also. Iam sad to say I have lived fairly near here most of my life ,and have never come in.But,this visit will be one of many more .Very helpful caretaker on site .Thi is a historic place in NZ history. It was a war site during the Land Wars , and the Government of the day won ,There were Maori casualties and casualties of British soldiers as well.At least this site has been preserved ,and well worth a visit .Some areas suiteble for wheelchairs and baby buggies .A real plus!

Nice area and the toilets was not just a hole in the floor like other camp sites. Proper toilets make the difference!

Great place for camping, trekking ,horse riding and families.
This is a historic site which there was a battle between Maori and the British.
As this is a working farm you will see lambs and cattle and can even feed the eels at the stream. There is a historic graveyard and a homestead onsite.
As you start the trek beyond the homestead it is a slow steep climb through the pines.
Once on top the wind kicks in and it can be strong. So strong that you may have to crouch, well it was the day I was there.
With views of Pauatahanui inlet and transmission gully and beyond it is well worth it

I've lived in Wellington for well over 20 years and I never knew this place existed until I started going regular walks. My review of this place is that it is beautiful, peaceful and makes all that stress simply disappear. Whether you're after a family picnic, a bit of a trek to the summit or simply a walk around beautiful farmland you're in for a treat. Also, a great place to bring your horses.

Went with mr13 for an event run by Wellington Regional Council - Bugs & beasties. Was good to have someone from Nga Manu show us a tuatara and tell us lots of facts about it. Went for a walk around farm to see bugs and beasties ending with feeding eels and a lolly scramble.

Several walking tracks to chose from, flat to challenging, you pick. The children love the animals and seeing inside a woolshed. Take some food to feed the eels, spare clothes if they play in the stream. Pack a picnic and sit under a tree, or even camp a night. Its a hidden gem and the rangers are always on hand if you have any questions

Great little reserve just off SH1 near Poirua. Lovely short river loop track, easy walking, with recovering native forest.

I always enjoy Battle Hill park. It’s so good for so many reasons; walking, sightseeing, feed eels, swim, camp, picnic... in fact I am going again on Sunday with my church. I’m looking forward to it

Love this place. So relaxing. There are a few different walks around the farm. Lots for the kids to see and do. We always take our bikes to that the kids can ride all day long. We love to feed the friendly eels and go for a mini dip in the creek/river. Return visitors!
