This is an excellent museum and art gallery for all ages. I highly recommend a visit! There is a children's play space, stunning art exhibitions which change regularly, very interesting local historical displays and high quality items for sale in the gallery. There is also a cafe on site which has friendly staff and a good selection of vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free items as well as the usual cafe items. The Porirua library with free wifi is also based in this building. Go check it out!!

Really learned alot from the informative exhibition featuring historic artefacts and facts from our past. A great place to learn about local history from a Maori perspective.

Every time I visit this gallery I am impressed with the range of exhibitions, the vibrancy and relevance of the place.

The cafe hums with lovely staff and fresh healthy food at fair prices.

Well worth putting a couple of hours aside for a visit.

This is the Mecca for art and history enthusiasts considering there’s heaps of competition in Wellington galleries , but none when showcasing contemporary Maori and Pacific arts

This gallery is always my first place to visit when I am in Wellington. The current Te Rauparaha exhibition is stunning...includes THE stone anchor. WOW!!! Plus around the corner the history of the two harbours and my top favourite artists. Do not miss this place. Take the train to Porirua if you haven't got a car.

I was especially delighted to view the anchor rock last month, very significant to have it on display and had the opportunity of touching it as well! The displays are always informative and with plenty of space to be able to enjoy the viewing. Gift shop is amazing, you could go crazy in there

Some really interesting presentations here about the local history and some really odd presentations also. Always worth a visit though.

Fantastic art exhibition with range of displsys. Local information and display of Mana Island. Next the Fashionista Art collection, clothing repurposed and making statements about colonisation. Local Māori Art too. Then beautiful colour installation by Shannon Novsk. Plus a children’s interactive area. Amazing collection of art which s all free to visit 😊

People associate Porirua with poverty and crime, but this is not true. Though there are a great number of low income people there ,it has an excellent Art Gallery and Museum It is well worth the fifteen minute drive from Wellington to see its exhibitions.
The shop is also excellent and only sells goods made in New Zealand. It is the ideal place to find unique souvenirs and gifts

Right next to Cafe Kaizen there’s usually artworks to look at and near the shared entrance with the cafe and the library there is beautiful jewellery from leading NZ artists. I love looking there and browsing. They change their exhibitions often so there’s always something interesting to see.
