Fairly clean and looks relatively new from the inside, the crossing here both directions was uncomplicated; my girlfriend and I did get pulled aside for questioning in both instances. Despite this, staff were courteous and the delay was expected. I'm not sure how well non-Chinese speakers might fare if there was a tight connection time.

There were four of us who went through the Lao Cai side customs point in about 5 mins. We walked across the bridge and into the Hekou side. I was sweating a lot as I was carrying three backpacks as after Yunnan we were going to Tibet so we had loads of cold clothes. As we walked in the customs... More

This seem to apply to any non-Chinese and non-Vietnamese person going through this border, much less traveled by us than the other land border on Nanning-Hanoi line (Dong Dang/Ping Xian border). This took so long... More

Customs formalities on the Chinese side took much longer than usual. I've gone in and out of China many times. The customs agent here seemed inexperienced and took extra care examining my passport since it has had pages added that look slightly different from the pages in the original document. (US Passport.) Still, he wasn't rude or difficult. Just being... More

On our way from Lao Cai, we were thing of doing some shopping at the Chinese border. 6 of us, all Singaporeans, queue up for immigration procedure. 5 of us were delayed for almost 1 hour. The custom officials there said the security lines in our passport differ from that the Singapore govt provide them. My guide was called in... More
