We were totally “blown away” by this museum! The passion & enthusiasm of the curator shows in all aspects of the museum. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit & highly recommend a visit as we learnt so much about Calvinia & its history.

The Calvinia museum has as would be expected, a lot of info about the original inhabitants of the area. That includes the early indigenous peoples, the Boer settlers and other like the Jewish community that arrived in the early 1900s There is also a lot...More

Although we spent one night in Calvinia, we made a special effort to visit the Museum which is housed in the old Jewish Synagogue. Entrance is free and all the Exhibits are very carefully laid out and well cared for. You will need around one...More

Step into this unassuming old building and you are met by the charming Miemsie, probably the most passionate museum curatrix we've come across. She provides a chatty history while pointing out the main items of interest, and then leaves you to wander around uninterrupted. What...More

The gardener here obviously has a hotline to the curatrix: he let us in and she arrived, a little flustered, a couple of minutes later. She obviously is enthralled by what she is doing there and brought alive so much of what otherwise could have...More

Met by very lady who gave us background on the history of the museum, items in custody and the exhibitions as well as future development. A lot of effort to ensure the history are preserved for future generations!

We popped in quickly; well that is an oxymoron because it was so interesting and informative that we stayed some time. The host is very friendly and the exhibitions cover a wide range of history. Defnitely worth a visit.
