Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Gritty, grimey. If homeless alcoholics smelling of stale urine, shouting at everything is your thing then St Roch is definitely where you want to be.

For everyone else … avoid.

The small shops, restaurants and bars could have some attraction if it wasn’t for the street scape.

The church was locked.

We loved this neighborhood with lots to explore! Fun restaurants and friendly people!
Hidden gem if traveling with kids: parc henriette-belley playground.
There are some (homeless?) people hanging out in the squares but I always felt safe.

Our hotel was down here and we were very glad. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, and even a supermarket here.
If you are staying in the St. Roch area take the elevator at Rue de la Couronne and Rue Saint Vallier E that will save you a lot of energy going up.

Walked through this area as part of a food tour of Saint Roch.

I found it an interesting district in comparison to the main part of Vieux Quebec. They are obviously trying to revitalise the area.

If you have an extended time in Quebec City like I did it is worth a visit.

During a bus tour they past the church and mentioned the "shops" below the church. There was some type of neighborhood fair going on but the "shops" - all we found was one very large shop. Didn't buy anything but the church was very nice. I was told they are trying to make this more of a tourist area but they have a long way to go.

My partner and I stayed at hotel Pur few nights, so we had a lot of time to discover this part of Quebec. You can find here plenty of bakeries and groceries, even book store, tea shop or toy store or public liberary. There are many restaurants and bars and of course beautiful St. Roch Church. To the Old Quebec it takes only 20 minutes walk.

My partner and I recently spent 5 nights in this neighbourhood as our hotel was located here. The pluses are many. Cheaper to stay here than in Old Quebec, lots of restaurants and grocery stores. Also there are some good local shops that sells specialized goods so you get away from the chain stores a bit. Not too many negatives though there are lots of Street people in the area panhandling.

Made it a point to drive here because of all the hype about it being an "up and coming" neighborhood. Maybe if we'd come in the evening it would have been better, but our mid afternoon visit revealed empty bars and restaurants, and a couple of moderately interesting shops.

Saint-Roch is coming back to a life, and much of it can be found on Rue St. Joseph. Along this stretch of blocks can be found ethnic restaurants, boutiques, bars, music venues, local breweries and all the excitement that goes with it. A few pictures are worth a few hundred words, but it's better in real life. Spend a weekend afternoon and/or an evening. It's full of life here/there.
