I had a high expectation as the reviews below were quite ravishing. But I was very much disappointed with the size of orchestra. Two cellos!! (Not to mention other instrument) I am just a simple music lover but the ratio of instruments are unbelievably inappropriate. Put aside the much bigger number of violins, there were four contrabass versus two cellos!!... More

The concert program suggested: "Immerse yourself in the Russian soul!" And that we did at the Place des Arts in Montreal featuring pianist Denis Matsuev and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Matsuev skillfully performed Prokofiev’s formidable Piano Concerto no. 2, followed by the symphony's rendering of Shostakovich’s dark humour and a selection of excerpts from Mussorgsky’s opera Khovanshchina. The concert hall... More

This orchestra hall for the Montreal symphony is breathtaking with the warmth of its wood walls and seats, made from Quebec beech wood, which has great acoustic properties, as well as being visually pleasing. It is designed to be a superior acoustic environment. Our latest experiences have been the summer symphony classical offerings directed by Kent Nagano, which offered short... More

What a wonderful concert hall and accomplished orchestra under the baton of the highly acclaimed Kent Nagano.

Program: Helene Grimaud performing Bartok's 3rd Piano Concerto, then Mahler's 5th. Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducting. This is about as good as it gets, really. Oh, and we were literally in the front row, right in front of Helene. PRETTY INTENSE NIGHT!

When in Montreal you should find time to enjoy the Montreal symphony. The venue is state of the art and the musicians are amazing. After all Montreal is so much about arts and culture.

Audience awaiting Wynton Marsalis and Jazz orchestra during the Montreal Jazz festival. The Maison symphonique is a beautiful hall, wonderful sounds, not to be missed if you have a chance to hear any of the great artists who grace the stage! A true Montreal treat; all seats facing stage are excellent sight and sound lines.

I bought 2 seats behind the stage and besides the a unique view, the sound was far poorer than the seats in front of the stage. Couldn't hear a thing that was being spoken on stage and the sound from the bands performance (Oliver Jones Trio) was muffled. I know for sure because I went and asked the concierge for... More

When I went with a group, we did a tour of the symphony house. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about the symphony house. The building is beautiful and has amazing acoustics! The actual show that we saw was a bit strange. Modern organ music and interpretive dance. The show was very well put together and though I... More
