About
Originally designed as a neighborhood theater, the Rialto Theatre was built in 1923-1924 to plans by Montreal architect Raoul Gariépy. The facade of the Beaux Arts style, inspired by that of the Paris Opera. Inside, neo-baroque style, has a rich design by Emmanuel Briffa. Rialto Theatre was designated as a historic monument by the city of Montreal in 1988 by the Quebec government in 1990, and also as Canada's national historic site in 1993. An exceptional place to see a show or hold a major event.

Purchased the 3x online tickets ( Paolo Nutini show) with corresponding reserved seats, to be told by their personnel that we may sit anywhere we wish. Well, was that a complete disaster! Throughout the first 45 minutes of the show, people were being forced to change to their respective assigned seats. Total confusion by their staff, and totally annoyed by spectators having to be removed from their seats while the show was being played out. The seats/spectators in front of ours were changed 3 times over. I will definitely not be returning to this venue in the near future. Yes, of course it's a beautiful theater, long awaited show by Paolo, but total disappointment!

We attended a concert here on March 4/2023.
We bought tickets with assigned balcony seats (1st row) only to be told when we got there they weren't going to be honoured because the boss decided it was going to be general seating! We got stuck over 12 rows back and couldn't see anything!!! What a way to ruin a 50th birthday!

What a beautiful building and great job on the renovation and taking it back to the ornate building it used to be. I understand the owner bought it for just under 3 million but then put $10,000 into it to bring it back to its old historic charm. Did a beautiful job

As part of the historical and cultural tour of the Mile End neighbourhood of Montreal, organized by a friend, we visited the Theatre Rialto. It was so much fun returning to a theatre that is enjoying a revival, yet holds many of my childhood memories of attending Saturday morning movies in the 1950s. The current owner has been doing an amazing job of renovating the theatre and exposing the intricate and beautiful workmanship of the 1920s! The original architecture of the theatre was reminiscent of the European style theatres and opera houses and quite ornate. There are regular Argentinian Tango evenings at the Rialto throughout the year and an International Tango Festival was just in town. Some of the fun events featured at the Rialto have included CD launches, concerts, and the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
We loved reminiscing about the Rialto's past and enjoying it's current renaissance.
Travellers to Montreal and from Montreal will enjoy a visit to the Rialto for a concert tango milonga/dance evening or ball!

i went to the theatre for a event last night. it is a beautiful theatre. however, it was difficult to see the stage from the balcony. the sound was not so great. i am not sure if it was because of the person who was in charge of the sound or if it was the building. would i go back here? probably not....there is no parking other than street parking. we had to drive around for 10 minutes and at one point my husband was going to drop me off and just go home. that was how bad the parking situation was.

i read the other reviews about the theatre. i agree with them that it is a historic site and the theatre itself is beautiful inside. but the fact that parking is insane and that the balcony is on the third floor, i had concerns about what is there is an emergency. i do not think i would have been able to get out in time with the amount of people that were in the theatre with me. otherwise, i would have given a higher rating for this place.

I attended a gala concert and dinner and silent auction a month ago in this beautifully renovated old theater. From outsdie it does not look like anything and blends well in the working class, immigrant neighborhood shops and facades and ethnic restaurants. Once inside it is magic and wonderment that envelop you. Do not miss any occasion to get inside for a visit, a concert, a dinner or gala occasion. You will be transported into a magical old fasiioned exquisite atmosphere - beautiful stained glass ceilings and the food they serve is very tasty.

When you pass this theatre on the outside you have no idea what a gem awaits inside. This is a theatre from the 1920s lovingly restored. The ceilings are amazing as are the painted walls. There was a Jive Festival when we visited.

A real gem that has been restored at a great expense to its original look.

They still show some movies that it is many used as a catering facilty.

The show we attended was a history of Argentinian Tango. This was a fun and very different evening out. Various interpretations of the Tango were shown by professional dancers. It was lovely to watch along with some well known old time music. The theatre helped the atmosphere as it was like stepping back in time. Built in 1924 it still retains the beauty of that era with a gorgeous stained glass ceiling, gilt highlights on the elaborate raised masonry with frescoes of cherubs painted around the side walls. The ground floor (stage level) had a variety of side booths and small round marble tables & chairs to give a club like feeling. Dinner was not included in this particular show. Oh yes, there was a bar too and yes we had glasses of wine while enjoying the show. The upper balcony is set up as in a regular theatre with private loges on the sides. No matter where you sat, the view was unobstructed. Various shows & dinner theatre are put on throughout the year at very inexpensive prices. Definitely a must see place. I believe tours are also given.
