This is a nice way to get an experience of an underground mall. It is not fat from the Eaton Centre and it is underneath a cathedral. The shops and stores were rather average but looked overpriced.

Something just bothered me about digging out beneath a religious relic, listed on the Canadian Registry of Historic places, and sucking the air and soil out of the Cathedral's underpinnings. The juxtaposition was off-putting. It's my problem, I know.
Realizing that Montreal is a miserable place to spend winter, anytime anyone can seek refuge for dining, shopping, or just not being in the snow is understandably really great. I get that. The up-side is, this "promenade" should (or does?) connect with the "Underground City" and some other extensions.
God help this poor, unfortunate Arizonan who inadvertently gets caught in this kind of winter weather. I do believe that is why I left the colder regions of the USA. Back to the topic ...
In 1987, the church sold their rights to the underground land and the church was hoisted up on stilts while the excavation took place. The entry to the underground advertises "the Linen Chest" and we entered, wondering why all these sensible-looking people were making their way down to a "Linen Chest." Curiosity kills cats and (unfortunately) entices tourists.
We did not explore thoroughly so cannot comment on the linkage to the Underground City. Our only adventure into the Underground (sounds a bit like an episode from Alice in Wonderland or Dante's Inferno) was from its entrypoint on Rue St. Catherine (near Rue Peel) where it was a construction madhouse, both outside on the street and inside as the interior is being renovated. Color me unimpressed.
The forward-thinking, pro-active approach to filling the needs of the miseraby cold is something that should be lauded. I really need to give it another chance.

The Promenades Cathedrale is an underground shopping mall located on Saint Catherine West. It's at McGill Metro (Green Line). I love to shop at the Linen Chest for amazing household items. Dollarama is handy and great for getting a snack (bottle of water, cold drinks, chocolate bars, cookies etc.). The food court has a variety of options. My favourite is Olly Fresco's because it's like a mini market with fresh and healthy food.
This is overall a nice mall. What makes the Promenade Cathedrale stand out is the fact that it was built underneath The Anglican Christ Church Cathedral in 1987. If you appreciate architecture, you will find this mall fascinating.

was it the m,oney cghasers that got chased away by Jesus..I dunno...I saw this being built..it was quite impressive..they excavated underneath the Church ..the Church is held up by 18 inch piles every twenty feet .. The Church often has nice (free) recitals, choir singing at Lunch for the City Workers..the Mall below has the usual (uninspired) array of shoe stores and cartel merchandise and it links the former Eaton Building with the Bay..the Bay is great to go sniff the perfumes and shop for Dry Goods..Eaton has an Art Deco Dining 1920 's Room reminiscent of the Rainbow Bar and Grill in NYC before the Reno Job that gussied it up...and made it unaffordable for most Humans..lol.

This underground mall had a huge cafeteria style food shop of healthy food choices, in addition to a huge food court. As someone who eats "clean" it was a perfect stop while shopping to get in from the weather, have a very healthy snack, use the free wifi and use the restroom. This wasn' t my favorite mall I visited- BUT the fact that I could get a great healthy snack and a comfortable rest while people watching made it really a great stop! I cannot remember the name of the "healthy" food restaurant but it was outside from the food court. We took our food to the food court seating and sat down and relaxed. Very nice stop.

This is one of the malls in downtown Montreal that is connected to the city's underground network (RESO) and therefore accessible from a wide number of downtown Montreal places without going outside in inclement weather. The mall's anchors are the Linen Chest and Dollarama, but it one looks closely one identify the places where various giant pillars are disguised or hidden in walls. These pillars support the massive Christ Church Anglican Cathedral that is directly above the mall. That's right, in 1987 engineers put the Cathedral on stilts, and built a mall underneath it. As malls go, this mall is roughly comparable to the other downtown Montreal malls, but as an architectural gem, it is one of the few malls in the world that has such a fascinating construction history.
After visting this mall, visit the tranquil church upstairs and you'll get a real appreciation of how many pillar must be supporting this massive and historic cathedral

This was such a beautiful Gothic church. As is most of old Montreal , this was only one of many magnificient pointsto visit. There are always some type of musician(s) playing around the church, with varied styles. It is also a gathering point for what ever political statement of the day is to be made.

If you want to experience Montreal underground it's a good place to start but other than that it's just another mall with small boring boutiques. I would strongly suggest leaving the underground and just walking around the downtown core!

I'm not really into shopping so for me this is nothing special. It's underground and that's cool. There is also free wifi here which is really good to use. They have a food court as well if you're hungry. There is two entrances next to Christ Church Cathedral that takes you underground. The metro connects you to the other underground malls.
