About
Inaugurated in 1876, the Mount Royal Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the highly skilled designer behind New York's Central Park. It is an ideal site for admiring a wide variety of plants and birds or for enjoying outdoor activities. Les amis de la montagne offer a variety of services and activities that provide wonderful opportunities to discover the beauty and wealth of resources that the park has to offer, including the new permanent exhibition at the Maison Smith and interactive terminals and map.

Neighbourhood: Parc du Mont-Royal
Montreal was named for this hilly highland, where the tallest spot in the city overlooks its most extensive parkland. The greenspace of Parc du Mont-Royal is an outdoorsman's dream, with hiking trails and nature walks that cater to every season and level of athlete. In the winter, cross-country skiers, tobogganers, and ice skaters don their equipment by Beaver Lake and its pavilion, while the warmer months bring families and competitors to the pitches of Jeanne-Mance Park for tennis, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, or a dip in the community pool. A perfect spot for a stroll or a picnic, the forest foliage is dotted with sculpture art and offers views of some of Mont-Royal's oldest edifices, the towering St. Joseph's Oratory and the mausoleums of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Home to musical celebrations and twilight snowshoeing alike, visit here to walk, write, rest, think, or just be.

What a view!

We wanted to explore the city from the top to bottom, literally. If you want to get a great perspective of how beautiful the city is, do this first. Then hit the amazing restaurants!

It gave the city its name

Very unique, a mountain in the middle of the city. This is our second visit. First time it was summertime, and before the pandemic, and we took the the bus there. The conservatory/L’Oratoireum was closed this time due to pandemic . Our tour bus drive us through the main roads and park areas, and stopped for pictures. There is a good panorama of Montreal from the top.

Great Outdoor Experience
Sep. 2021
Wonderful attraction in Montreal if you enjoy a little exercise and walking. The climb might be a little tough in the middle of summer when temperatures are high but a perfect outing on a cool fall morning.

Great views

It was a great place to get some good views and a good walk. There is a variety of trails available, some fully capable of strollers and wheelchairs and some so that you feel a bit more like you are hiking.

Beautiful park but lots of construction
Sep. 2021
It's a beautiful park but there was so much construction that we did not have a chance to enjoy beautiful Montreal views. Still, definitely worth a visit.

walk or bus.
Sep. 2021
I took bus #11. However, Google maps gave me the wrong place to catch this bus. There are lot of trails to explore. This place is a MUST at night time to see the city from above. I suggest that the visitor walk up as there are stairs to facilitate your access to this stunning part of Montreal.

Probably a little too hyped
Aug. 2021
Not sure how would it have looked at night. We went on a hot summer day and was not tooo impressed. The road repairing frenzy in Montreal was also to blame for our irritation.

Views, Fresh Air, Nature and Montreal from the Top
Sep. 2020
When you are in Montreal, please do not miss this place. I was there during the Fall in 2019. Weather was good. Nothing is more peaceful than being surrounded by nature, beautiful landscape of trees and tranquility. Hike to the top of the mountain. It is not challenging to reach the top. There are well-maintained staircases and pathways throughout the area. You can also use the GPS to guide you to reach to the top or ask around which I did most of the time. Apparently, there are several spots for photography at different peaks.

I went there alone and it feels safe since there are a lot of joggers, hikers and tourists especially at the summit. The view of the city from the peak is stunning. I ended up spending more time there than planned, plus minus about two hours. I cannot stop myself from enjoying the beauty. The charm of the greens which are turning into tints of Autumn made me fall in love with this place.
