Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I stopped by the restaurant around 7:00 and found it packed. The host suggested I wait 30 minutes because everyone leaves at once to see the show. True enough, I had the place to myself by 7:45. The service was attentive, but not overbearing and the house-made pasta was excellent!

I went to see the Parisian Caberet Crazy Horse and was supprised by this fabled francophone theatre and its chic bar and restaurant in downtown Montreal. It was my first experience seeing theatre in a second language and the language barrier certainly did not appear too great. Lovely light meal and wine at the alfresco café - intriguing clientele intrigued by me an Australian traveller.

Food is nicely prepared. For lunch, I recommend not taking more than the main course as time might be an issue for adding and eating salad, tea and desert. Something to consider. Nice place.

TNM offers solid staging of the classics and contemporary plays. The plays are staged in a way that speaks to a modern audience member. Even the worse play seen here is better than most Canadian theatre anywhere else. I've lived in Montreal for 2 years now and saw most of the shows at the TNM and they have always excelled. What is even more remarkable is the fact that I did not understand a word of french when I first came and yet I have still found the shows very interesting.

The Théâtre du Nouveau Monde is more than 60 years old now, it présents seasons of both classics, modern and up to date plays. Usually the sets and costumes can be quite stunning and the direction going from good to great to contrived.
The Nouveau Monde was founded in another theater building and moved from one to another through the years while this old theater building was first a vaudeville house then burlesque, with the famous stripper Lily Saint-Cyr. Then it became the Comédie Canadienne that was a hothouse of emerging Québécois culture in the 60's. Then bought by TNM about 30 years ago, went through a complete renovation about 20 years ago. The budget was tight so the architected gutted the whole interior and, more or less, left it in that stage with a few new accent. Well a good piece of deconstructivist architecture.
On the photo of this page you can see that there are two balconies, the second one is almost totally closed except for two rows that are sold as last minutes cheap tickets during the TNM season but since the building has no elevators you really earn your seat!.
At other times the theater is rented to independent producers, like concerts during the jazz festival and usually a comedy in French during the Just For Laugh.
Oh and during the renovation a bistro was added. It is quite good for a bite before or after the show but space is so tight that it is difficult to get a drink during intermission.

been around for ever. Solid program year after year. Does not deal with avant garde.
To boot, excellent restaurant on the premisses for before or after the show
