Good intro to Old Montreal

We took the New Years Eve walking tour with Pierre. He was very interesting and informative. Felt like we learned a lot on the 90 min tour.

We did a two hour walking tour of Old Montreal with Guideatour and our guide's name was Christian. He had an excellent knowledge of Montreal and it's history. He needed no notes to describe accurately what we were seeing as we walked along. He was obviously proud of his city, as he should be, and it showed. He was also... More

What a wonderful way to see Old Montreal. Our tour guide was a Montreal native and gave us a great tour of city. He was very funny and provided a very welcoming atmosphere to the tour. My girlfriend and I were very immpressed with the people of Montreal and the beautiful city. I would highly recommed to those visiting this... More

With Vera as our guide and an interesting group of people, we moved from place to place with ease. Vera was enthusiastic, congenial, knowledgeable, funny, open, and overall delightful. The establishments we visited were prepared for us with reserved spaces and deliciously fresh foods and drink. In addition to three scheduled stops with their marvelous delights, Vera never hesitated to... More

Our guide Louis gave us great information and took us around to quite a few sights. He was enthusiastic and well-informed. The signup process was easy over email and I thought it was a reasonable rate for the quality of information given.

The success of a tour is highly dépendant on the guide. Our guide, Pierre, was superb. He was very attentive to our interests and adapted the time we spent at various spots accordingly. We took the visit last Saturday. The weather was not cooperating but Pierre did a great job of splitting our time outdoors and indoors. The coup de... More

Wonderful walking tour of both the East and West sides of Old Montreal. Our guide, Napthalie was superb. She even suggested a quick place for a bite of lunch between the tours. Well worth the price.

This tour is worth doing. The guide was friendly, knowledgable and seemed to be genuinely interested in answering questions and teaching the group about the history of Montreal. Although his second language, he was fluent in English. He also kindly offered advice on where to eat and also where else to visit during our stay. Great asset to the tour... More

Our Texas group of 18 senior citizens booked tours in Montreal and Quebec City with Guidatour. We had wonderful, very knowledgeable guides and personal attention. We were on a St. Lawrence Cruise and opted to take our chances in arranging our own private on-shore tours. Our contact at Guidatour was Zoe Drujon-Desrosiers.

The one most striking thing for me was the architecture, from the enormity of some of the structures, the striking materials, to the incredible attention to detail by craftsman that you would be hard pressed to find today. Beautiful and steeped in another time. Loved it!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
