It's an easy, but long walk. Very flat with no gain in elevation at all; not that it is a bad thing, but it's a little boring. However it is a good change from the cityscape of Toronto, a little natural waterfront sanctuary for a short work out. Lots of joggers, bikers and walkers. Do bring sun shades, caps or... More

A great walking, biking trail with different views of downtown and the Islands. No pets allowed and it goes out for kilometres. Great in all seasons for bird watching or just a quiet stroll, bike ride or run. Lots of water fowl can be seen and a great plac to bird watch during the Spring and Fall migration. Only open... This is a really well done nature preserve, the TRCA have done some really good restoration work here. There's some good places to see the Toronto skyline and lots of birds. Good place for photographers. There's a good amount of parking just outside the entrance. Be prepared for a long walk if you want to get to the tip of... More

The Leslie Spit is undoubtedly the brightest bastion of zen among a city rife with chaos. The park is a fantastic way to get away from city life for a half-day and enjoy a picnic, some sculpture building and a fun bike ride all within view of Toronto's downtown. Definitely bring a camera and a bike, the shots are incredibly... More

I just love bike riding in Tommy Thompson Park. There is no vehicular traffic to deal with It is a long stretch of road down at the foot of Leslie St known as the Leslie Street Spit The park is located on a man-made peninsula, which extends five km into Lake Ontario and is over 500 hectares in size. The park... More

Most sunday mornings in spring and fall there are bird walks organised, I managed to get on one, there were only three of us including the guide, we saw some great birds and enjoyed a lovely walk, we ended our walk at the bird ringing station, well worth a visit and please leave them a donation, really nice people and... This is a great place to enjoy the outdoors just minutes from Downtown. You can Bike, Walk, Hike and even Kayak on calm days. Have been here in Spring, Summer and Fall and there is always something to do. Each season brings a unique perspective to the Park. One of the safest places to bring your Children cycling. There are... More

Don't seem to make it down here all that often but when I do I always think we should come back again soon. Great for riding bikes (it's kind of a long way out) but I see lots of rollerbladers and birdwatchers. I've walked out in the wintertime when the small trees were covered in ice and it was beautiful... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
