It’s all aboard as you travel to the end of steel on 592-mile, round trip ‘Tour of the Line’ to the French Canadian community of Hearst, Ontario. Your journey begins at the Algoma Central Railway depot in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where you will board our regular passenger service for a day-long rail adventure that combines the rugged mixed forests of the Canadian Shield, experienced on the Agawa Canyon Tour Train, with the boreal forests of the Great Clay Belt region. In marked contrast to the mountainous Shield country, the Clay Belt region, home to the lordly moose, is a combination of level coniferous forests and great inland lakes teeming with northern pike and walleye.

The scenery was beautiful when you could see it. Most of the trip the trees on both side of the tracks were too thick to see anything else. We boarded at 7:30am and did not return until after 7:00pm. The train was ok but if...More

No better way to see the Canadian shield and enjoy a picnic in the canyon. Scenery is nearly surreal, forest is jungle like, rock cuts are fascinating. In addition to the on board dinning car a box lunch is available to enjoy during the 90...More

Had wanted to ride the Algoma Central Railway for a long time but could never get it on my calendar until now. We really wanted to do the entire tour of the line from the Sault to Hearst and back, but apparently the railway is...More

I stayed at the Sleep Inn, about 10-15min walk from the station and on the same street. You can walk much of the way beside the river. Train arrives about 7.30am for 8am departure. Passengers are allocated a car number but not an actual seat...More

Travelled on September 21. Our Agawa Canyon train had 17 passenger cars that day, mostly tour groups from far and wide. Had interesting chats with American visitors from Ohio during the ride. A Ten Hour day, starting at 8 am and ending at 6 pm....More

Lovely views in a well maintained traditional rail car. We were fortunate enough to visit in the fall and enjoyed the spectacular colours. The hiking in the canyon was easy and very picturesque. The only draw back was the dinning experience. Very expensive for the...More

The scenery is breathtaking and the train ride is very nostalgic. The canyon itself is tranquil with plenty of room to stretch your legs on the many trails there. Well worth a ride on the rails.

This is a train ride through the Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada countryside. No beach just trees, animals (if lucky) rocks, hills and waterfalls.
