Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I highly recommend Niagara Falls in the winter. Beat the crowds, the heat and all the tourists clogging the area. I thought I would be surrounded by newlyweds but it wasn't the case. It was so beautiful albeit FREEZING :) but nothing buying the GoPass couldn't help.

After taking a stroll through Dufferin Island park we crossed the road and walked away from the top of Niagara Falls to see the power house and the Niagara falls dam that controls the flow to the falls and diverts the water to generate electricity.
On our way back to return to the falls we discovered a boat stranded in the middle of the river.
A nearby plaque explains that it was a scow boat that has been there since 1918, when it became loose from the tug boat that was towing I while dredging the river of rocks and debris.
The men on board realised that they were in peril of going over the falls, so opened the false bottom of the scow and dumped the rock that they had collected and stranded them selves on a small landing, where it still remains today.
One man swam to safety but the other man had to be rescued via a rope line shot from a nearby building.

Neat story about how 2 quick thinking guys prevented their boat from going over the Falls and dying but not much else to see. Water is pretty and it's a pleasant walk.

Ok folks, move on. Not much to see here. This is a ship-wreck, a not very interesting one, that happens to be somewhere famous.

If you are in Niagara Falls on August 6, 2018 and you want to be a part of Niagara history then make your way over to the site of the scow above the falls at about 7pm. There they will celebrate the 100yr anniversary of the historic scow rescue.

From what I was told as a child this scow had worked its way down river in the earlier part of the 1900's. It became lodged onto the rocks where it has remained to this day. If I am not mistaken all of the crew were rescued by Red Hill himself. A legend in the Falls and Rapids rescue.

Neat piece of history that will always be there to enjoy. A short walk, just upstream from the Falls. Beautiful park area, great for picnics or just a walk.

Definitely check this out as part of the Dufferin Islands. You can park around the island road for free and it is a nice walk around the networks of trails and bridges (there are ducks!), then cross the main road and you can get right up to the falls upstream and a bit further down you can see this old boat lodged on a small island right before the Canadian falls. Definitely one of the most underrated things to do in Niagara and enjoy a free hike.

Pretty cool piece of history. If you don't know it's there, you may not even notice it. We actually saw it on the "cartoon" map from the lobby and made a point to check it out. Interesting story as well.

We have always seen the scow stuck on some rocks prior to the falls but never knew the story. Well today we were walking by this plaque and it was about the scow. Those two fellows were very lucky to have survived the ordeal! Nice views of the river as well.
