Beautiful area to have a family picnic and nice little walk around the park. The car park gets very busy there is no cross walk. If you have kids be careful as some drivers speed past crazily. Overall amazing chill out area and within a few minutes from the falls.

This park is incredible! We found this park accidentally whle trying to find a place to turn around. What an amazing bit of luck for us. It is a series of tiny islands formed from a small diversion of the Niagara River. Each island is connected to the next by a bridge. Large carp can be seen in the water, there are plenty of ducks, geese and other wildlife. We spent over 2 hours there just walking the trails and enjoying the day. My 5 year old son thought this was heaven.
This would not be advised for those who love excitement and constant thrills. This is a quiet, serene natural setting very juxtaposed to the hustle -bustle, crowds and 'noise' of Clifton Hill.
Great place for a family picnic or just to get away from it all! Clean restrooms and FREE parking!
My only complaint is that the stream is becoming a collection site for people's garbage! What a shame that some people are such slobs!

I went back to Dufferin Islands in July 2013 as part of my 'lets do free stuff in Niagara Falls' tour. While it may not be as picturesque as Niagara Falls or the Niagara Gorge it is a cool place to be on a hot day.
Located at the south end of the Niagara Parks development area it is walking distance from the rest of the Niagara Falls Attractions like the Journey Behind the Falls and Maid of the Mist.
Bring a swimsuit and towel in the Summer.

About a mile south and upstream of the Canadian falls off the Niagara Parkway lies Dufferin Islands park. Dump the kids off at the Waterpark or Madame Tussauds, grab a bottle of wine and a picnic lunch and bike, hike or drive (free parking) over here for a little slice of nature only a mile or so from the Starbucks infested beehive just blocks away. .Red winged blackbirds fly around your head like something out of Hitchcock movie if you approach their nests, and great views of the NF skyline and the rapids just upstream from the falls.
It's not listed as an "attraction" in most of the guidebooks, and you're probably the only person reading this review on Trip Advisor which means you're already probably halfway there. Go the rest of the way. Really nice place to kick back in NF.

I was impressed by this place and there is a lot of water here! We had a nice picnic at Dufferin park/island. I recommend you take children there and they can feed the ducks. We took a tour recommended by the hotel we stayed at but I would recommend that you do your own thing. I paid much more than what you should have for the same thing. The tour took us on the Maid of the mist, cave of the winds, and a tour of a hydro station for $80 per person. You can do the Maid of the mist etc for less than $40. It is more convenient with the tour but it depends on your budget. There are fireworks at night on Sun and Wed nights to see at the falls. Food choices are average and only franchises are available. If you have a car then you can drive further out and get cheaper food. I wouldn't recommend the all you can eat breakfast we had. We got ripped off because it advertised all you can eat and poured us coffee which we didn't find out until the end that is not included in the breakfast and was expensive. The orange juice was even more expensive. I think this place should have a menu telling people how much each item costs. Lastly I would recommend hiring a car and driving around Niagara on the lake and visit the wineries. It is a beautiful drive and visit the Botanical gardens. Beware you have to pay for wine tasting over here!

This was one of the best places to relax in seclusion in Niagara Falls until about two years ago. Many years ago you could rent a canoe or paddle boat, they are all gone. There were also public swimming areas with waterfalls. Swimming has been closed. It's still a nice area to walk, especially the bush trail, but it's not the same without going for a swim on a hot summer day. This is the location of the best light displays during the Winter Festival of Lights. Only drawback is long queues to see the displays and for some reason the Niagara Parks still insists on harrassing people for donations!? They bring in millions of dollars in sponsorships for this event, they don't need donations and they should not need volunteers! Those should all be paid jobs with all the money the Parks has!

We planned our visit to Dufferin Islands for the last day of our visit to Niagara Falls. Duffering Islands Park is located on the Canadian side of the Falls. The "green" WEGO (bus) line dropped us off just north of the park (at the end of the bus line), and we walked the short distance south to the Park. Can you say "ducks and geese?" There were many flocks of both birds, some sitting as close to us as two feet from the walkway. Dufferin Islands is a series of "islands" connected by bridges. Walking from one island to the other proved to be a relaxing experience. In addition to the ducks, geese and waterways, the pathways wound past some huge, old trees. The Park gets a lot of use. Families were having picnics, joggers were jogging, walkers were out with their dogs. Although it's a large Park, my husband and I felt safe walking on the paths. At one point, we came upon two city workers who appeared to have saved some old bread that they probably rescued from one of the restaurants along their trash pick-up route. It must have been a regular activity, because as the tossed the bread scraps into the lagoon, geese, ducks and seagulls went "psycho" trying to get in on the feast. The two workers looked like they were having a good time doing the feeding, and we enjoyed the bird drama. When we left the island portion of the Park, we hiked across the street to get a view of the water that was surging over the Falls. We leaned over the rail at the site of the old power plant to get a feel for the power of the water. Our visit to Dufferin Islands was memorable and one we'd recommend to others, especially if you want a great escape from the crowds at the Falls.

We brought our dogs with us on this trip, and one day, we walked from Dufferin Islands to the Falls and then back to the Islands with our pups - then, we took them around the islands. Peaceful, serene, the geese are beautiful. Next time, I'm going to bring a picnic!

We decided to go to a place where we can relax and also enjoy nature without spending much . Dufferin islands park offered that. The trails and connecting bridges gives you the opportunity to see nature at work - man made dams/waterfalls, floweres, trees and of course the different brids in the park. It is a very good location for picnic. we ended up spending about 3 hours in the park

Are the paths paved for people with walkers & strollers? Can you recommend any other accessible parks nearby? Its hard to take a rollator on gravel/rock paths & the wheels get ruined. I have never been to this area other than the flower clock tower & the falls area before.
Written 7 November 2020
The path are not paved but are clean enough around the lake for a wheel chair user which I observed during my visit (I would avoid the wooded area). The Niagara fall area has many walking path which are either paved or tapped into a comfortable surface.

Hi, what attractions on the island that we should visit or take a look? and how long should we spend there? (we are a family with young kids), thanks.
Written 19 August 2016
There are no attractions here, but it's lovely to walk across the bridges around the lakes and islands to explore and relax. There are ducks and geese to feed and plenty of places to have a picnic. Allow about an hour to walk around, or longer if you plan to take a picnic. Parking is free and the islands can also be reached by the WeGo buses.

Hi, i have not been in almost ten years. have they removed the ability to swim in the water within the islands? it used to allow families to swim with a no trip access point. TIA
Written 7 July 2016
I would agree, I dont see very many adults swimming in there, I dont think its as clean as it use to be. Also there are beavers....mostly people go there to walk or to picnic or just a quiet place to relax.

Absolutely.. just 20 minutes of beautiful walking!!!

during a walk today, I found out there are beavers at Dufferin Islands and may trees were down because of them. how many beaver reside there and what time of day and year would you be able to witness them nawing on the trees. there was also a foliage that was growing in the wet land close to the water that looked like an amerlia plant when it first grows out of its bulb. my daughter said she has seen a purple flower on them. what are they
