About
Soar the Great Gorge, high above the racing Niagara River. You'll be transported through the air in an antique cable car, while far below the torrent of water abruptly changes direction and creates one of the world’s most mesmerizing natural phenomena – the Niagara Whirlpool. Sometimes frightening and always unforgettable!

It was a neat going out over the whirlpool, but not an absolutely essential visit. I wouldn't pay for it on its own. Stay away if you are uncomfortable with heights.Visited October 2023Written 28 October 2023
- Hrothmir226 contributionsGreat for Fall Leaves - Otherwise miss-ableMetered parking by the Aerocar is free for people viewing the site. The Aerocar experience: traveling over rough water via a cable car (from one part of the Canadian side of the river to another part of the Canadian side of the river) is OK but not amazing. The views of the turbulent water at White Water Walk are more exciting. We were there in late October and the leaf colors were terrific. The Aerocar provided a great overview and photo opps of the colorful leafy scenery. I would recommend doing the Aerocar at this time of year - but would classify it as miss-able at other times of the year.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 November 2023
- J & DCalifornia, Maryland379 contributionsGreat experienceThis is part of the many things to do with the Niagara Parks Pass. Hence it is included with the ticket and is one the many great things to do in addition to the falls. Great experience. The Niagara Park Pass makes it cost effective, is so well organised, makes it the best way to see all of the sights on the Canadian side. Which of course is the better side to view the falls.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 May 2024
- AJC769Panama City, Florida27 contributionsGreat experience! We got tickets as part of the Niagara Falls Pass. We enjoyed the ride. The weather was perfect with no wind. The view of the whirlpool from above was worth it. The car is stable, the narration was nice to explain when we were crossing the internationaI borders and to point out the two landing sites for helicopters to rescue people who dare swim in the river (with a $10000 fine). When the car reaches the other side everyone walks clockwise to the opposite side of the car. We rode in the middle and just had to turn around. I am afraid of heights so rode in the middle of the car. I had no problems completing the trip. We also saw people sitting by the river on the American side, which we found out was reachable down a staircase at Whirlpool State Park. Overall, I would recommend this attraction.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 June 2024
- IllinoisMrsZ353 contributionsTimed visit but still a wait!Purchased as part of the Niagara Park Pass as encouraged by other reviews. We arrived at 12:10 and were the last of the 12 noon reservations to get in our holding area. It still took over a half and hour to board the aero car to ride across and back. Enjoyed the view of this horseshoe bend in the river gorge. The car operator did a nice job of giving information as we rode over. Liked that she had us walk to the opposite side for the ride back so everyone go the see the scenery and whirlpool from both sides of the car.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 July 2024
- Olesya SHouston, Texas34 contributionsShort Picture-Worthy ActivityThis activity takes no more than 30 minutes total if you already have a ticket and arrived just before your scheduled ride, so don’t plan your day around it. Instead, incorporate it as part of your tour of Niagara Parks (hiking trails, butterfly conservatory, etc.) or as your first stop on the way to the wine country. Book online at niagaraparks.com for a smoother experience - there are lines and no shade in front of the ticket office. The online page suggests you buy a $30 day parking pass for all Niagara Parks, but keep in mind that parking at Whirlpool Aero Car is free. The aero car takes you across the river and back in a single ride, and you will get to take pictures from both sides of the car as the passengers are asked to switch sides midway. The visit was easy, fun, and left us with lots of excellent pictures.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 7 July 2024

Going early during the summer months is advisable since it is a popular stop on the WeGo bus and various tour groups.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten 29 July 2024
- The Cornish Hack304 contributionsCool views of whirlpoolPretty cool views as you cross the whirlpool area. Maybe not quite the churning maelstrom I'd hoped for but still impressive. If you've booked one of the attraction packages I'd do it on the same day as the white water walk and butterfly conservatory as they're all pretty close to each other.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 10 August 2024

Unfortunately many do not follow directions or pay attention, then they get upset about minor things. Kudos for Owen handling issues while being professional. A must do while in Niagara.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 August 2024
- IrishRoverPittsburgh, Pennsylvania3,235 contributionsNice attraction but not sure it’s worth the timeIt’s a fun little ride above the whirlpool on the cable car. Was it worth the 1.5 off waiting in the que maybe not. Unique views that you can’t get from the gorge walls but you can hike down from the USA side which might be a better use of the timeVisited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 15 September 2024

Water comes from one direction and go in opposite direction making whirlpools when make full circle.
Worth seeing.

It should be no great surprise the original name of this attraction was the Spanish Aero Car, in honour of its Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo. Opened in
1916, its cable spans over 500 meters of the ominous Niagara Whirlpool [roughly 76 meters below], the machinery chambers dug into Thompson Point opposite. $17 plus tax will get you a fun ride, actually entering US air space on a couple of
occasions. Don't worry, there's no passport check. If things are luckily timed, you can even catch the Whirlpool Jet Boat doing a Hamilton turn beneath you, the southern end of its journey. No speeding tickets to worry about. The maximum of 40 passengers putters along at 4.2/km an hour.

My husband and I went on the Aero Car after the wet Jet Boats. It was fun to see the landscape and whirlpool from above after being in the water. The car is secure, stable and was not scary for me. I am a little afraid of heights and don't do zip lines or anything like that. This was fine for me. It felt sturdy for sure. As you enter the car on one side, you stand along each side and have railings on both sides of you. The interior of the car is up a step and has its own railing. Don't worry about which side you start on because at the other side, everyone walks clockwise until you are all on the opposite side from where you started. You get to see both sides. It was not long but a fun little trip to see the beauty of the area! There is a small gift shop and bathrooms. The gift shop has some snacks, popcorn, and of course lots of gifts. The Green line bus stops at the Aero Car so it is easy to get to even if you don't have a car (or don't want to drive ).

We didn’t want to do all the attractions so we booked this separately via niagara parks website (cad $17). It was a great experience to dangle over the turbulent river below. The guide was interesting and kept us engaged. Not a long time on it (10-15 mins maybe) but worth it for the photos. Got the green line north WEGO bus directly to it. The WEGO buss pass was included in our Marriott hotel package.

Fun little trip across. Wish we were out there longer. It's great that they rotate all the people around the car so you can see the rapids on one side and the whirlpool on the otherside. If you afraid of water or heights this is not for you. Go early and reserve your tickets ahead of time!

The aero car takes you over a whirlpool, a part of the river where it changes direction. It's cool to see, but I wish the ride was longer. To get from one side of the river to the other and back takes probably no more than 15 minutes.

The views were great and it checked an experience off the list. Visiting first thing in the morning and the week prior to the long weekend led to the ride not being very busy. The ride is fairly short but the Operator provides facts as you cross and then re-cross the border.
Pro tip - drive to the aero car, experience the aero car and then leave your car there for the day (free parking) to ride the WEGO bus to other attractions (excellent transit system)

There is an option to pre-buy date and time specific tickets, but it says no refund. What if the weather is bad?
Written 18 April 2024
I will assume that because it is essentially a cable car over a massive body of water that in bad weather it would not be running. I would check on their T&C's for their policy on bad weather as I would hope that they would offer an alternative attraction (if you buy a pass) or a refund. If unsure on the T&C's on the website, drop them an email prior to buying the tickets.
But yes, you can buy the tickets in advance. We bought the adventure passes and they were worth it when you are there all day.

Is it easy to get a cab at one of these attractions? After the aero car I want to go to that near by Jet Dry Speed Boat ride which is the closest to this stop, but the WeGo does not go to the jet boat attraction. I do not have a cell phone. I'd need to get a cab there from the aero car after I rode it, and back to it from the Jet Dry speedboat place. Could anyone that works there call a cab, or what do ones do? I doubt that strip is full of cabs waiting to flag them down.
Written 18 September 2022
Can't give you a definitive answer but likely best to email the Whirlpool Aero Car if it has a phone on site or if it is likely a staff member post-ride could call you a cab. Should be much easier getting back as the jet boat ride is within NOTL so should not have too much difficulty arranging a cab.

Is it wheelchair accessible for someone who cannot walk at all? And does it allow heavy electric wheelchair or just lighter weight manual chair?
Written 27 February 2022
Where does the aero car go. Does it drop you off at a different location and pick you back up or just loop around?
Written 28 February 2020
It goes across the river and immediately come back to where you got on. It does not drop you off on the other side.
