Overview
More
The Pump House Steam Museum is located in one of Canada's oldest original water works - where steam-powered pumps provided the first running water to Kingston residents from 1851. Only six similar preserved water pumping stations remain in North America. The museum's most incredible artifact is the museum itself - where the original pumps are animated and visitors can discover exactly how they worked. Guided or self-guided tours show how steam power was an essential element of the industrial development of Canada and pumped water played a key role in Kingston's history. Check our website for our latest exhibit on display in the Engineerium, and explore the Gordon C. Leitch Discovery Centre filled with games, toys and activities for inquiring young minds. The Museum is home to a stunning collection of model railway trains. An elaborate multi-level O scale train can be set in motion by the push of a button, and the HO scale train set from the opening of the iconic CBC children's show 'The Friendly Giant' is on display.

95% of this museum is exactly in the title: It's the old pump house that contains the steam engines that pumped water in to Kingston. The pumps are very impressive and beautifully preserved. Truly some cool machinery ... if only there was some way to...More

This was quite an interesting museum. It had three parts: The waterworks, the miniature trains and believe it or not. At first we weren't certain if we would like this museum. Once we explored it, it was quite worthwhile. The water works had to expand...More

I was expecting to learn more about Pump Houses and Steam engines, but instead saw 2 large constructed, not-active engines with a few diagrams as to how a steam engine works. The majority of the museum seemed to be random tidbits of Kingston's history, presented...More

This s good of you like and understand physics or the industrial revolution. It was part of the Kpass so free to go in. They have 3 model railways that look good but would be better if someone bothered to pick the fallen over trains...More

Kids loved the huge train set and the "Believe it or Not" sections. As for the pump house itself, I found it very interesting. There were also lots of kids play activities there. Highly recommend it.

This summer they have a super cool "Believe it or Not" exhibit. It's got some great creepy and wild history of Kingston as well as super well done interactive portions like a Jimmy Fallon-esque Box of Lies games. The staff were sweet and I had...More

There are interactive activities to try that were fun. The ship was great to explore, it felt haunted while inside it so much history involved

This is a small museum but very historic. Don't know why they merged miniature train stuff to this attraction but in a way, it’s a good thing that they did as there is not too much to see other than two gigantic pumps. The price...More
