About
Murney Tower Museum is housed in one of the last martello towers built in the world. It depicts life as it would have been for an 1846 soldier and his family. From the cannon on the gun-platform to the ditch defenses in the basement to the barracks level (complete with costumes for visitors to try on!), Murney Tower has something for everyone.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A worthy visit if in Kingston; entry fee is by donations to fund this historical site. The exhibits give you a good idea of life living there in its days of use. Not sure how families were raised in there! The cannon room is interesting. Overall this was interesting.

This place is just straight-up cool! Once you spot it from the water, it calls to you .. it draws you to it. You must go to the Murney Tower! At least that's how I felt ...
It's in great condition and easy to explore, with a helpful staff to explain how people actually lived in this thing (god what it must have smelled like). And don't forget to explore the surrounding park and waterfront, it's top-notch!

We visited after touring Fort Henry. There's not really much in the tower to see - especially for the $5 admission. We were in and out in 5 minutes. What is there you would have seen in much more depth and detail at the Fort.

I have driven by the tower multiple times but never gone inside. It's wort stopping in. The tour is only $5 and gives you access to a guided tour of all three levels of the tower where you can see artifacts, cannons and hear more about the soldiers ans their families who would have lived in the tower. Very interesting!

I visited with my husband and we were told it was $5 each. Very minimal however I had already purchase the Kpass so it should have been free. I should have questioned the young girl. I just assumed she knew the prices. Staff clearly need to be trained to ask about the Kpass.
The tour itself was interesting.

We're sorry that you had this experience. Generally, we rely on our visitors to inform us if they have the K-Pass. If you would like to visit again, we'd be more than happy to provide you complimentary admission and a free guided tour.

Anyone coming to Kingston that wants a quick visit to cover off the historical significance of the city should try to make a stop during the normal hours of this attraction. A quick relatively easy access spot, the persons on site are extremely informative. I would suggest any visit to Kingston start here.

We, 2 adults and a 9-year old, were pleasantly surprised with this visit. The period clothing and artifacts were very interesting. The 'host/cashier' was very knowledgeable.
The only reason I did not give this a '5/excellent' is, although she was knowledgeable, said 'host/cashier' did not speak French and therefore could not diectly share her enthusiasme, theories & enlightenment with our son.
Ciao :o)

The website does not do a good job of explaining what there is to see here. When you enter the structure it appears to be one floor. There are actually three levels. There is a $5 admission fee to see the entire place. $2 more gets you a guided tour. We did the self guided tour which was good. The upper level contains the main cannon which sits on a swivel which rotates on a guide rail. The lower level is much larger with many different rooms to explore. The narrow stone winding staircase is fun to climb. If you are visiting the lovely town is Kingston, don't miss the Murney Tower!

This is a smaller museum, and for someone exploring the military history of the region, it might seem like a bit of overkill. It is still fun to explore its three floors though, and likely won't take much time in doing so.
