Worth a visit!

Beautiful Italian villa, once the home of Sir John A. MacDonald, Canada's First Prime Minister. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, all of whom are bilingual.

For Shame...
Aug. 2020
Gorgeous old home, in a beautiful setting, and arguably of some historical importance given that our first Prime Minister lived there. How sad and unfortunate that it's been allowed to degrade. It is in bad need of a revamp. Due to covid (no fault of theirs) the gardens are overgrown and unkempt, but more notably, the house is in I'd say dire need of attention. What a shame it can't be in some way commercialized to keep it maintained and pristine for generations to come. Weddings? Events out of public visiting hours? a restaurant in the coach house? Who knows,,,,but there has to be a good fit out there.

Really nice home from our nations past. I think I may have gotten a bum tour of the place considering everyone else's reviews, but mine was... meh...

Great Garden Tour
Sep. 2019 • Friends
Great experience! Me, and my 3 friends went while the house was under construction,so we weren’t able tour the house itself (it’s the 1st major renovation since 1967). Despite this it was our lucky day as Andrea gave us a GREAT tour of the on site garden. The garden is an heirloom garden so its plants and pesticide use fits the 1867 era. Thanks to Andrea we got to taste Black Currants and Raspberries fresh off the vine (fantastic) and fresh heirloom cucumbers.

The other guides were great at answering our questions, as we took our self-guided tour.

Under construction but worth it
Aug. 2019
I wasn’t aware that the house was closed for renovation, but it still not disappoint. I paid to have a personal guide, who took me round the museum and the grounds, she explained so much, I thoroughly enjoyed it, o.k. You couldn’t go in the house, but the grounds were lovely, and the vegetables were to be admired. There were guides around the grounds who could answer any questions you may have.

Not Right Now

As others have said, the house is closed for renovations, hence the rating given at this time. The visitors center did have an interesting World war I exhibit.

If you like history, you will not disappointed with Bellevue House National Historic Site!
Aug. 2018 • Couples
Last year my husband and I flew to Kingston to attend our daughter's graduation ceremony and decided to make it a two week vacation and visit most of the recommended Tourist Attractions. We spend a wonderful two weeks of significantly interesting and historical attractions which were always well presented by enthusiastic tour guides whom had a lot of knowledge about the attraction. One of the many was at Bellevue House! The whole presentation, the whole interior decor , the gardens, easily brought us back in time! After all, Sir John A MacDonald was Canada's first Prime Minister and Kingston was Canada's first Capital!

House under renovations

Museum is still open, but rather pointless because there's no access to the house. At least admission is free.
