We stopped to view the palatial residence in Halifax and noticed the fine stone work of the structure. It was built right across from the historic graveyard that many dignitaries are buried, so that provides a unique setting. The Halifax Harbor may be seen from...More

Free guided tours of Government house provided. Whilst there, there was also a changing of the guard, with a sole piper. Great to see some traditions maintained.

We just happened to stumble upon Government House which was having an open house. Interesting guided tour of the ground floor main rooms and the history of Halifax and the monarchy. It was free!

Queens home away from home. More than a rumor the Queen regularly has come to Halifax. Just the idea that this is Halifax’s Buckingham Palce is a treat. Worth a detour if you are walking the waterfront.

We came upon this building after visiting St. Mary's Cathedral and Basilica. Walk one block south on Barrington St. We did not attempt to enter as there were no signs indicating it was open to the public. It is worth a photo for its architecture.
