Relatively hard to visit be somewhat easy to see. This is part of the National Historic site in the harbour which is seldom open to the public. Understanding the role of the island helps to paint the picture of the importance of Halifax in a historical setting, but mostly it is a bit of a letdown because it can only... More

As our cruise ship was entering Halifax Harbour, what an opportunity to take the most perfect photographs of this wonderfully scenic lighthouse. A beautiful backdrop with the green hills behind it and the rock boulders lining the waterscape. Great! Only my number one also here is the best! Peggy's Cove! Halifax is Great!

Georges Island Lighthouse was right outside our cruise cabin when were we docked at Pavillion 22 in Halifax. We had a front row view.

Would be nice to go to the island but no one seemed to be selling rides, maybe it is just for the looks.

Is a focal point of the scene from the Halifax harbour front. It is very picturesque as it sits on the island in the harbour. The history of the island adds to the aura of mystery that surrounds the existence of the lighthouse. We did not go to the island so only saw it from the distance.

As many times as I see this lighthouse from land or sea I still love to look at it . Due to many vessels colliding with George's Island in the fog the Lighthouse was first erected in 1856. For more than a hundred years a light keeper and his family lived on this tiny island. An automated system was installed... More

A beautiful island in the Halifax harbour! While it's not accessible to the public, it can definitely be viewed by boat or even from the harbour.

We spent all day on July 10 docked in the harbor at Halifax, Nova Scotia while the Queen Mary 2 was in port celebrating Cunard's 175th anniversary. You can see a lot more from the water than you can on land. For one thing, you can't visit Georges Island National Historic Site any other way than by sea. The small... More

As far as I know, you can't actually go to George's Island Lighthouse, but you can however view it from the waterfront. It's a cute little light house tucked into the grassy hill with a cute abandoned cottage near by.

This is pretty fantastic! It's cute and distinctive, and it looks so grand just standing out on the island in the middle of the water. I wish we could have gone over to it, but it's a sight to behold from across the water as well!
