Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having been to Egypt twice, I was pleased when the museum featured a special exhibit on Egyptian mummies and burial material. There was a good variety of material but it was not well labeled. I was interested in where some of the exhibits came from, but most were just explained generally. Overall I felt it was good exhibit. I was disappointed to find that the material was not directly from Egypt but was from Italy. This was material taken from Egypt, possibly in exchange for help saving other sites for flooding, but It could also have been simply artifacts taken during early days of exploring Egypt - this was not explained.

The Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History is a small but interesting museum tucked away a short walk away from The Citadel. exhibits about the wildlife, plants and how they have played a part in The Maritimes over the span of time are featured. You can see everything in well under an hour but though small still worth a look.

Very small museum and while the taxidermy is good it is so sad to see so many visitors ignoring all the signs about do not touch. I would be OK with that if it was just the fossils, but not when it is the costal waters exhibit with people prodding the star fish or knocking of the glass of the live frog enclosures, etc. I understand Gus is a local treasure, but looked like the saddest tortoise enclosure ever.

We went with the kids, who spend as much time at the permanent living wildlife exhibit at the entrance as the so anywhere else. Turtles, snakes, bees, frogs, you name it- if it’s small and native to NS, they probably have some in a terrarium.
I always enjoy the underwater exhibit with starfish, crabs, and other aquatic critters.

Interesting parts on the sand island and the 3D sphere of the earth and planets. Courteous staff and really cheap admission price.
Extremely short museum to visit 30-60 minutes maximum. No animation. Some sections are outdated. Perhaps a refresher would be necessary.

We were recently there for the Egyptian Mummy’s exhibit. It was a great time and was well put together. The regular exhibits that they have are also fun to see. The kids always love the turtles, frogs and snakes.

This museum has something for everyone. We took a cab here but saw a few transit buses go by. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
They have some live animals as well.
Nice little gift store.

One of the oldest museum in Canada but definitely my fave. A Must visit, an opportunity to experience and learn about Nova Scotia's social and natural history

For the money, this place is lacking. There is no mention of the word "EVOLUTION" anywhere in any descriptions or presentations. There is no mention of ancestral species and certainly no mention of anything related to human evolution. It's like they think that the organisms on earth today are the only ones that have ever been here. I wonder if they avoid EVOLUTION because of complaints from people who think either that evolution doesn't happen or that humans are exempt from evolution. EVOLUTION through Natural Selection is only the single most important, most influential discovery in the history of the universe. A museum of natural history should embrace this and have displays and events and descriptions that educate us about evolution, including the evolution of us human apes. Unfortunately there are actually some people who believe that to view humans as animals is a bad and dangerous thing and I wonder if this museum is cowardly avoiding the issue so they don't offend people who think that God created all animals and that God made us special.

This was my "umpteenth" time visiting the Province of Nova Scotia and Halifax. We had a planned trip to travel to both the Northwest and Southwest part of the Province taking the "Evangeline Trail and the Lighthouse Trail." I love the the lighthouses that I saw along the way. Some that were not actually on the trail itself. My only "gripe" about visiting Nova Scotia is that it is expensive to purchase anything in the province, so if you are both a beer and alcohol consumer you might want to think about buying those consumables. The countryside is so beautiful, a lot of farms, and the mountains that look out to the Bay of Fundy. Just "BEAUTIFUL!" This "Maritime" Province was the first port outside of the United States that I visited when I enlisted the U.S. Navy in 1983.

The Cat Festival, sounds more like a market place than a display of cats for children to enjoy. Is this the case as I can’t seem to find past pictures of this event. Please enlighten us. Thanks.

I am not familiar with this. I would suggest contacting the Museum directly for information on the currently exhibits.
