I made a last-minute stop at this cemetery.
Just before I left Nova Scotia, I wanted to pay my respect to the victims of the Titanic and to the 1917 Great Disaster. It was free to enter this cemetery, but this cemetery was only open for very random hours. It would be wise to check these hours of operation prior to any entry. It was quiet on a Monday morning. I was able to follow the signs to the locations that I wanted to visit, and I just parked my car as I viewed the graves.

    wonderful piece of history
This was always on my bucket list, and I am so glad I was able to get on a group tour from our cruise ship. We had a guide who told some great (and sad) stories about the various people who lost their lives. I enjoyed hearing about how they identified the youngest victim from DNA. It was also interesting learning there was a J. Dawson (not Jack though). You don't need much time, but its definitely worth seeing a piece of history. Well-maintained.

    Most moving
Hard to write a review about this cemetery. I’ve been around Halifax before but this was my first visit to the cemetery. It was very moving, especially when you know the history of the Titanic. The most moving part for me were the headstones with no name. Also it’s worth looking around the rest of the cemetery. Of note were the gravestones of those killed by the great fire in 1917 from the greatest human made explosion of the time caused by 2 vessels colliding in the harbour.

After arriving in Halifax, NS, we found a taxi driver named Terry. We ask if he could take us to the “titanic cemetery.” He was very gracious and said he would take us there and back for a certain amount. He said if he dropped us off we wouldn’t be able to get a ride back as taxi’s don’t hang out at the site. After arriving, he was very knowledgeable about the graves and told us the number on each headstone was the order each person was pulled out of the water. Some stones still don’t have names and according to Terry they are still trying to be identified. This was the highlight of my trip. Halifax taxi drivers know their stuff and it was a memorable day.

We were a group of 16 on a tour bus and spent about 45 minutes here. Our tour guide had told us that some of the Titanic victims had never been identified so did not have a name on their headstone, but had a number that corresponds with the order that they were removed from the water. Beautiful old trees and walkways. This was really a highlight of the trip. So glad we got here.

Not really into cemeteries, but this one was worth the visit. We had a great tour guide that did her research and she was full of stories about several of the Titanic victims that were buried here. We spent maybe 45-minutes here and it was worth the time and experience. One thing we liked was the many stories our tour guide told us that James Cameron incorporated into his version of the Titanic movie. We're really glad this was part of our tour of the area.

Moving to see and remember. Grave area is shaped like the bow of the ship. There are some unique and very moving stories about some of the deceased. Glad we went, but I would not plan a day around it. You can get a feel for it respectfully in about an hour.

This cemetery contains a number of victims of the 1912 Titanic disaster. We went with a local expert who had a lot of information on the victims and the Titanic itself. If you simply attend by yourself, I'm not sure you would be impressed. If you are there on a tour, I believe you will feel it was worth the time.

This is the final resting place of a number of Titanic victims. There are plaques explaining the Halifax involement with the tragedy and the history of the Titanic gravesites. The location is beautiful but somber. Many of the graves are simply marked with a number (the order in which the bodies were found) and no name. Most notable of the graves are the unidentified babe (who has since been identified) who was "adopted" by the rescue squad and for whom they then held a large funeral. There is also the grave of a Mr. J. Dawson. This person is not that basis for Jack Dawson in the film; however, his grave has been a popular visiting place for teenage girls.

Having started a transatlantic cruise in the UK, and stopped at Belfast to visit the Titanic museum, it was only fitting to visit the final resting places of many victims of the tragedy in Halifax. Cruise excursions are always a rip-off. This visit we did on our own. Here's how you can do it for less than Can$5 each. Get the No.29 bus heading east from the main road 300yds from the cruise terminal. Pay the driver the Can$2.75 ticket (one way), and ask to get off at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. KEEP YOUR GREEN BUS TICKET, as long as your visit to the Cemetery is only for an hour or two, the bus ticket is valid for your return journey on the next 29 bus heading back towards the cruise terminal. The return bus stop is up the road on the opposite side 150yds.
