I enjoy walking the various trails through the park while learning about the local history. It’s amazing to see so many intact and wonderfully preserved structures, each one with informative descriptions. Lots of places to stop and rest (benches are plentiful). The views overlooking the water are stunning. Plenty of parking (upper and lower parking lots), or if you’re looking for a longer walk, the park is accessible from downtown via either a path that runs along the harbour front, past the cruise/shipping terminals or via the suburban South End neighborhood.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 26 September 2023
- TennisStar602New Jersey704 contributionsI took a brief walk through the woods of Halifax.I had done a lot of walking during my day in Downtown Halifax, but I did want to see some of the more rural parts of the city. This park offers many walkways through these deep tree-lined woods. I really enjoyed the ability to get in touch with nature while I was visiting one of the biggest cities of Canada. I was sure that the fall foliage must have been amazing here. There was free parking on the premises. Downtown Halifax was about a ten (10)-minute drive away.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 November 2023
- SilverOrlovBedford, Canada2,399 contributionsA good example of a good parkA very nice place for a quiet walk. There are many places to sit. Very comfortable paths for jogging or walking the dog. Cyclists are permitted to ride on designated trails during Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. My wife and I came here when it was drizzling and a bit "stormy" near the shore, but it was even cool. Very nice and pleasant sea air. There are several small parking lots near entrances to the park. Several interesting historical places and monuments. Overall, a great place, I recommend visiting if you really have at least an extra 3 hours.Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 September 2024

I was there Sunday 7th Feb, a nice sunny morning, the park was really busy. Lots of families, with kids and dogs. Saw lots of dogs, the park has specific areas for dogs off leash. There is the Prince of Wales tower, a Martello Tower, it is round, this is to make it easier to for cannonballs to bounce off. There are also the ruins of a couple of fortifications to look at. There is a beach that is popular in the summertime. Their is a Sailors Monument, which is quite impressive, especially for Battle of the Atlantic Sunday and Remembrance Day. There is an experimental woodlot that was planted after Hurricane Juan in 2003. There are main trails which get winter maintenance, as well as other trails which you use at your own risk, as there is no winter maintenance. There is a bus #29 that drops you right at the upper parking lot and the beginning of one of the main roads in the park. It is open from 05:00 am to 10:00 pm. On a sunny day it is a real nice place to visit, if you are in Halifax any time of year go see it.

Free parking, easy to walk the park, a small beach area, Halifax Memorial Cross - very peaceful and hard to believe you are in the city. Very beautiful water views. No washroom facilities (just a portable johnny near the parking lot - yikes).

One of my favourite spots. Hurricane damage is starting to fill in and it gets more beautiful as time goes on. Great harbour views, historic buildings and walking/biking trails. Fresh sea breezes. Good photography opportunities, both on land and offshore.

Our family visited this place on a super hot summer day; and it was nice to dip our feet in and wade Black Rock Beach, which is at the one end of the park.
My wife & daughter hiked some of the ocean view trails (that have stunning views of the harbour/bay), while my son and I explored the tide pools.
Although the tide pools weren’t packed with creatures when we visited, we managed to find a few different varieties of crabs, and really enjoyed our time.
Definitely recommend for those that love to hike, walk, or wade in the surf.

Beautiful historic urban oasis. We walked most of the edge and cut through past the martello tower. Walkers, runners , and doggos throughout. We met a roving gang of no-goodniks (see picture). Come for a little downtime and get away from the city noise. A great de-stresser.
Love this place.

I went to watch the aircraft carrier come into port. The walk from the boardwalk takes you through the cargo and shipping area of the port just after the cruise ship terminal. I still would recommend the walk as I felt safe the entire time.

Never a dull moment. Tonnes to do and it would probably take a couple of months to experience the all the food options this area has.
Blessed with great weather the week we were here which made it even better.

This is a large park on the end of the Halifax penisula. Lots of walking trails and woods. On one side you can watch commercial ships and private craft and on the other just private craft. Great place to have a picnic with grass along the waterlines.

Will the park be open to the public all next week or are there any private events going on?
Written 8 May 2019
Point Pleasant Park is open all week and it doesn't have any events listed.

Is this a walking trail park only or are you able to drive around it in a car to the different view points?
Written 17 July 2018
Nope - just park in the upper parking lot, grab a delicious ice cream from the friendly folks at the corner convenience store there and start walking! I recommend going straight on the path so you can see Martello Tower on the right, the old fort on the left, straight through to the beach on the Noethwest Arm.
Then you can follow the water to go back, check out the big bandstand/gazebo, the sailors memorial, and end at Black Rock beach. Then you can walk back up the road to the upper parking lot, either through the park or on the sidewalk by the road.
Enjoy!

No. You can bring a picnic, there are tables at the park.

Is there public transportation to the park?
Written 5 May 2018
Pretty sure there are buses that take you to the park. Not sure of the routes but you can check the Halifax transit website. They won't let me post the link here.
