The Rooms is a place for all of us: for those who live here and those who want to experience it fully. Part sanctuary, part showcase, part classroom and part playground, it’s both a destination and a journey. This is a gathering place, a creative space and a cultural centre as distinct and unique as Newfoundland and Labrador. It is our place to come together, to create meaningful and memorable experiences. It is our place to share the best of who we are.

Very informative overview of the history of Newfoundland. From the natives, to the battles for control of the fishery, Irish immigration, and the damaging effects of WWI on the population and future of the country were quite informative and helped us understand the culture before...More

If you want to discover the history of NFLD, I give this museum high marks. We went in on a rainy day but ended up spending 2 hours on the top floor alone. The military part was excellent as well.

We spent over 2 hours here, but could have spent twice that. Lots of informative items and descriptions of displays to read and examine. Deeply touching remembrance of the Royal NFLD Regiment and its involvement particularly during the First World War. Highly recommended.

Our Globus bus tour of St. John's had the option of dropping us off at The Rooms (as opposed to our hotel). This gave us the chance to have lunch here (great fisherman's bake), see this interesting museum and then take a nice downhill walk...More

In all fairness, the displays were well done and there were a number of interactive things for children. However, there was a lot of reading with few artifacts in the museum section and the art did not really reflect the traditional image of Newfoundland. With...More

This place appealed hugely to me because I love local museums that contain miscellaneous skulls, arrowheads and journals and so on. We visited an exhibition of work by a very interesting local artist Gerald Squires: some beautiful drawings and paintings, very Newfoundland and with wider...More
