We got a tour of the big building by a very enthusiastic young lady who provided us with interesting information and anecdotes on the... More

the Commissariat is split into two parts. The old stable is now the area with a general overview of the City, the military and other social history. The Commissariat house itself has been refurbished to maintain that early 1800 era. We were very lucky to have a couple of docents there that gave us a great summary of the period... More

We went to this site to use up the free toggle we received from the Newman Wine Vaults. The house and history are interesting, and the sole staff on duty did her best to engage us, but sadly I did not find it "wow" as other sites in the area.

We visited on St John's Day which meant free entry, iced tea and great home-made ice cream! Staff friendly and knowledgeable and it was interesting to read the displays and tour the house.

This is a great place to visit to understand how the more wealthy people lived in St. John's many years ago.

Led by a very informative and enthusiastic guide, the house offers a glimpse into British life and rule in Newfoundland. 1 hour required.

Very interesting house. I really appreciated the commentaries provided by the guide who followed us through the house. The exhibit on freedom of speech outside of the house is also well documented and interesting.

The displays and artifacts present at this site as well as the interactive displays make history come alive. Kelsey and Heather thoroughly explained the history behind this site and it's historical significance. Their interest in this subject matter piqued my interest and my wife's interest as well.
