Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This point has a rich history, from prehistoric, native people, early explorers, early Victorians to today. My family (my dad was ex-Navy who served on a mine-sweeper) lived on the point during the housing crisis after WW2. Army barracks were converted to rental housing and our family of 5 lived in one for almost a year. The winters were fierce with constant cold winds blowing but the rest of the year it was exciting to live so close to the sea, to witness the Olympic mountains across the strait of Juan de Fuca. The simplicity of the park belies the rich history from pre-historic to early Victoria days this park has seen it all. From shooting range, burial services, to home of a WW2 search light. Part of it was underground on the point and I believe most of it is still buried there. Enjoy, the extensive views and the beach below the cliffs. It is a magical place, stay a while and let your imagination work.

Locals often grumble about the city adding benches/seats to this park but I say Stop! Take a picnic here, just judge the temperature accordingly. The park is a tiny peninsula pushing out into the Salish Sea. For sure you'll see birds, sea lions and maybe a whale or two. Parking here for a couple dozen vehicles, a big grassy area (no shade) lounge chairs, tables, benches, public washrooms- everything you need for a memorable/relaxing hour or so. Some days you'll see all manner of kited adventurers.
Oh my the blue sea views! Don't mind the locals, come for the reason they moved here.

I found myself with a spare hour in Victoria, and had not visited this location previously, although I had driven by. The park is pretty typical of the region, with great views over the strait and the mountains of the coast mountains in Washington state. Drop down to the beach however, and things change. The clay based headlands sit on bedrock that sits just above the stone shingle beach. The bedrock shows significant grooving and striations from ice ages past. Definitely a great indicator of previous changes in the area.

It certainly does not strike me as a park and yet I have sat in my car at Clover Point in all seasons over the last 40 years. During the summer the Olympic Mountains are shown in in a haze during the hot days. In the winter they are covered by swirling clouds and snow. Spring and fall can show them in stark relief. Seabirds abound throughout all seasons and there is always some whitecaps. It is, however, spectacular during the winter storms. The waves can be savage with spray coming up over the car, providing you with the beauty and terror that nature can invoke. On sunny windy days you can watch the kites flying overhead, watch windsurfers pitching their skills against the waves and wind, dream along with those people who love sailing along the coastline and you may be lucky enough to see the occasional hang-glider. On sunny days with broken clouds and wind, the sun shines over the sea turning it from gray to molten silver and gold before the wave breaks over the rocky beach. During the summer months explore the rock pools that abound at low tide and walk along the beach strewn with logs from log booms that have travelled that way and broken up. To the left of the point is Trial Island with its working lighthouse and to the right Ogden Point where cruise ships dock and further out still, the hills of East Sooke Park. If you see a cruise ship, daydream about where it may take you and the cargo ships that sail by, wonder what they carry and where they are going. Marine mammals also be seen, orca and humpback whales, sea otters and sealions.

A place to dream, a place of peace.

I bring my daughter almost everyday for a walk in the beach and the shoreline with low tide to observe the amazing coastal ecosystem. It is not difficult to see eagles, sealions, seals, sea otters, blue herons, rockcrabs, octopus and sometimes whales.
It is also perfect to walk the dog.

This is a small area with fairly good parking that gives the visitor an excellent view of Juan de Fuca Strait all the way across to Port Angeles in Washington State. On clear day you also get a great view of the Olympic Mountains. Fair birding here if you are interested in that kind of activity and whales are often seen during the summer.

The point itself is easily accessible via the sidewalk on the west side of the roadway but if you need to get down to the point with your car, stop before you go. Construction of the new sewer pumping station is underway and the roadway is blocked. The road has been closed to public vehicles for at least a couple months. It appears the construction site is nearing completion and surely the park will once more be fully open to the public. This location offers a great view across the water toward Port Angeles and the Olympic Mountains. The Strait of Juan de Fuca carries considerable Commercial shipping traffic. I don't believe that traffic bothers anyone on the shore, in fact it is interesting to observe.
