Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Located near Government Street on the Inner Harbour near the Empress Hotel the Centre was closed Monday and Tuesday when we were there in September.
Brochures, maps, shows, restaurants, and tour information are all available. You can also buy tickets for some tours and events.
The problem was only one staff member was on duty and there was a long lineup of people waiting. Admittedly, with Covid, tourism was down in Victoria but having two people on duty during the day would have been helpful and not wasted so much limited vacation time standing in line.

After passing by countless times, I finally decided to patronize the Victoria Visitor Centre. I generally enjoy visiting centres such as this when I travel because they contain a wealth of information and are often crucial to planning (assuming you didn’t pre-plan before traveling). When I’ve visited other communities – Halifax, Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii – the visitor centers were pretty great: Plenty of literature, souvenirs, interactive exhibits and mostly helpful staff (the folks in Prince Rupert – looked like teenagers – were more interested in texting on their phones). I guess, overall, the Victoria Visitor Centre is much the same in that regard. When I was here, I spied plenty of literature highlighting key attractions in the city and surrounding areas; the staff were engaging; and tourists have the ability to book tours and receive recommendations, which is all great. Where the Victoria Visitor Centre fell short, in my view, was in the souvenir department and the general layout of the centre – it seemed quite bare. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I thought there’d be more inside . . .

Unexpectedly short in information: I went in. A man a d his wife passed me going out. The man muttering things like: great service; such a help; wonderful friendliness; great help etc etc. I was not sure what to think of it at the time. Now I know he was being sarcastic and irritated. When I asked some advice, I did get some. Not much out of the ordinary. The man and the woman were so much busy with each other I think, that they found my being there a disturbance, more then an opportunity to help someone finding his way in Victoria and around the island. So, I decided to say goodbye and leave. I was no impressed. A shame really.

We’ve been to Victoria a lot, but always stop in at the Visitor Center to get updated opening times and maps.

We cruised into Victoria, BC on Celebrity Solstice Thursday, June 13, 2013 and only had about 5 hours in port. We did not book any excursions on the ship. As we walked off the ship and into the parking lot we saw a very animated driver waving at us. We later learned his name was "Nico" owner and operator of "I Love Victoria Sightseeing Tours & Service".
Nico operates a 12-15 passenger van with an intercom system which is used during a very informative tour. He charged a very reasonable price of $75 total for about 4 hour use of the van. There were 7 of us and we split the $75 total charge. The tour lasted about an hour as we requested a couple of stops to walk around. There was no pressure to get back into the van or pressure to move onto the next stop. We could take as much time as we wanted for our customized tour.
We just wanted to be transported to downtown harbor from our pier. The bus ride alone was $10 per person, so doing the math it was a no brainer to have our own van and Tour guide.
Nico gave us a tour of a castle, the Queen's personal residence which we were allowed to enter the property and walk around the garden. Drove through the park to see some roaming Peacocks and some beautiful trees. We drove around some nice neighborhoods and pointed out some unusual and interesting trees.
NIco later dropped us off at the downtown harbor and picked us up later at the designated time. He is most friendly, fun and easy to get along with.
We all enjoyed the trip and I would highly recommend contacting "Nico" on your next trip to Victoria, BC. If it is only for a few hours or all day.
We tipped him an additional $40 because of his service.

The visitor information staff had people right at the dock when you got off the ferry from Port Angeles, WA.
They were very helpful and had a map for you and could answer any questions you had about your visit to Victoria, BC.
Very nice people. Much appreciated.

We used the Tourism group to get some general information. They were very helpful even though we didn't book any trips with them. The location is very convenient to the corner of Government Street, the harbor and Empress Hotel.

We found ourselves stopping by the Visitor Centre quite a few times with questions about guided tours, bus schedules, etc. They carry brochures for many attractions in the area, and you can speak to one of their friendly staff (Dale was esp helpful for us). Be sure to stop by.
