The old market square is filled with interesting one-of-a-kind boutique shops. It’s fun to browse, wander in and out and try wares. My favorites are the card and shoe stores.

Victoria is an urban walker's dream, with lots of little nooks and crannies to explore. Market Square is a lovely space, made up of an inner courtyard surrounded by shops, cafes and restaurants in the older buildings. Lots of boutiques for the shopper and cafes...More

its been newly renovated and so many little shops inside the walls, and around nooks and corners.. I love the vegetarian restaurant on the ground floor too. This place is glorious year round... but amaizng in the summer.

This square has a weird layout that is not easy to shop. They finished the renovations from last year (it seems to me), and there is no improvement to it. As a tourist you could skip it, spend your time elsewhere.

You cannot miss this square if you are wondering around downtown. It has a courtyard area where market people set up their wares. There's also several boutique style shops and eateries in the old, restored buildings. An interesting place to wander with a nice vibe.

We passed the Market on the Hop on Hop off bus and it looked interesting. It was disappointed when we came back later. When we asked around, we were told that the Market has an open market on Sundays.

I was staying in the area and walked over here to take a look around. It was a pretty brief look. While the layout of the place is really interesting there's a pair of restaurants and a few stores none of which I had any...More

It's a step back in time and a well preserved look at an old square. It was quiet on a Friday evening. There was a vegetarian resturant and the Drake Restaurant open however we did not stop. I'm sure there's more action during the day.

Have to say, I was disappointed. Some nicely restored buildings, a few shops, several restaurants. That's it. A large open courtyard that is underused. There could be so much going on but there isn't. We walked through several times, because it was a shorter route...More

If you live in a city with more than 1000 people living there, you will not find this place interesting. Only shops, regular shops like any other place on earth. Don't wast your time in Victoria going there. There are many beautiful places to go.

The closest grocery store to downtown would be the Market on Yates at 903 Yates Street. I have walked there when I was staying at the Empress Hotel. Could also take a cab.
