I love the effort of the 400 volunteers, the garden is maintained by volunteers with love and sincerity. They just opened the museum and tea house, totally under-priced for such excellent quality afternoon tea and dessert, the tarts are amazing, and most items are made...More

Saw in March, but still looked like winter there. Without flowers, a nicely arranged walk, but nothing super special. Probably best in June and July.

We enjoyed the beautiful gardens at Government House! Definitely worth driving in and walking the grounds, we chatted with some of the volunteer gardeners and enjoyed all the work that goes into the upkeep of these lovely grounds. The Rose Garden was magnificent and we...More

Despite having been to Victoria numerous times, had never been here before. The house is immense with lovely grounds that are apparently kept by a huge team (something like 400!) volunteer gardeners. It is a large property with walking trails to enjoy.

We walked the 35 minutes or so from downtown UPHILL to Government House. The grounds are beautiful, the totem pole is lovely. Not sure if anyone can have a tour of the building but we could say now that we went to the place that...More

Take down the lights. It looks tacky in the evening. December is really the time to turn them on. The building is beautiful by itself.

Cannot make it out to Buchart Gardens because your cruise ship idiotically docks after 4pm? Try Government House gardens and experience a Royal lodge's park, magnificent trees, wonderful rose and herb gardens. Black-tailed deer, too! We could only peer through the windows into the "House"...More

The house itself is rarely open to the public, but the gardens are open daily. And my, what gardens they are! There are acres of beautifully landscaped gardens with benches and paths -- and very few people. My husband and I spent about an hour...More

The the grounds are very rarely closed - the last time was when the Prince and Princess and children stayed there. Other than that, I can't recall a time when the grounds were not open to the public.
