Strathcona may be heaven on earth. The camping was phenomenal. The views, the lake, the waterfalls, the hiking. Everything was just perfect. We spent three nights here at the end of a cross-Canada trip, and it was a worthy conclusion to our voyage. I would...More

September 2017. We did a full day hike and a half day nature walk in Strathcona Provincial Park. The hike was 21K (return) along Forbidden Plateau to Cruikshank Canyon wth 20 members of a Nanaimo-based meetup.com hiking group. Very nice. Excellent view from Cruickshank Canyon....More

I have done many hikes and backpacks in this wonderful, huge, remote park. In early October this year I backpacked to Bedwell Lake, where I camped, and then continued up a rough trail to Cream Lake, a round, blue lake at the base of rugged...More

This park is well worth visiting. The drive from Campbell River is beautiful. There are many hiking trails in Strathcona. We hiked the Lupin Falls, and Lower and Upper Myra Falls trails. All nice and well marked. Although we were not camping, we checked out...More

Very well marked trails and a variety of routes to choose from. Different trails offer assorted walk distances with lots to see. BRING bird seed for the whisky Jacks to snack on.

Very Beautiful area. We went when the smoke haze was pretty thick but were still able to see a lot. We had planned to hike the mountain and spend 2 nights camping but did it in 1 instead. We arrived about lunch time and walked...More

If you come to the island specially if you are camping you have to go to Strathcona Park. There are two land campgrounds, Buttle Lake and Ralph River. Both are excellent campsites. Buttle Lake has a sandy beach and beach front sites. Ralph River has...More

Bedwell Lake Hike: 5 stars and then some! This hike was interesting for every step of the 6km and 600m elevation gain. 4x4 vehicle recommended to get to trail head. We've hiked dozens and dozens of trails across the province, in Banff, and Jasper and...More

From Campbell River to Strathcona Prov Park is a 2 hr trip if you never stop. But do stop along the way for photo ops or short walks to falls. Do grab lunch in your cooler in Campbell River also, because there are no stores...More

The area is amazing. If you like to hike, fish or boat this is the area for you. If you want a quite campground, think again. The park rangers do not sleep on site. So, as soon as they do the last drive by rounds,...More

Great question! We did not swim there. It was swampy. We went to buttle lake. The landscape around the campground bordering the water is not conducive at all to walking into the water....there's no beach or even rocks... More

Honestly, I'd say skip it. There are far more beautiful places all over the island... to see "majestic" you need to hike out of the easy. Hope that helps! Check out the group "take a hike Vancouver island" on Facebook... More

Hi Christian - you can rent a boat/canoe at Strathcona Park Lodge along highway 28 just before reaching the campgrounds. I just googled it, haven't rented from them.
