With so much on offer in the Public Market it was great to have Bob to show us around. We sampled a variety of food and drink and Bob took the time to show us lots of different foods and explain their history and where...More
One of the best days of our 10-day trip! We started in the garden and even though it was raining, we were able to find the beauty in the plants and art, thanks to Bob's knowledge of the Chinese culture. The garden sparkled and I...More
Bob was our guide for this Chinatown visit. It included the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, as well as visits to a bakery, produce markets, butcher shops, and herbal medicine shops with taste sampling along the way. We finished with a delicious dim sum...More
I entertained myself for a few days in Vancouver while my husband attended a conference. I decided to try the Wok Around Chinatown tour. Tip for solo tourist: sign up on Robert Sung's website where you can see number of remaining tickets. Tours only run...More
We were guided by Susan Ma and she was so knowledgable. We spent about an hour in the beautiful Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens, and then ambled into Chinatown, visiting several stores, learning about the history of the early immigrants, and sampling food. Then we met...More
If we had visited Chinatown by ourselves we’d have enjoyed it but would only have scraped the surface and would have missed so much. Visiting with Bob was fantastic - we were completely immersed in the culture of this fantastic area.
We were lucky to...More
Although being locals, 4 of us decided to do a walking tour around Chinatown and all of us were glad we did. Bob’s tour was very informative and a lot of fun. From the gardens to the apothecary to the market to the bakery to...More
I chose this tour after seeing a famous dim sum restaurant on Diners, Drive In’s and Dives (I know, corny but true!) thinking we’d have some good food. We did, but, I have a whole new respect for the Chinese culture. We learned SO much!...More
My wife and I wanted something low key when arriving in Vancouver at 11 pm. We got up the next day and did this tour at 10 AM. Bob started us with a personalized tour of the Sun Yat Sen cultural center and then took...More
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes
diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.

We didn’t have any gluten free members of our group, so not sure if there are GF options. The owner is very responsive to questions so I would email and ask. He’s also the guide and a former chef, so he would know the... More
