Surely the Marine Building is the finest example of its kind in the world. Some compare it to the Empire State in New York, another icon of a by-gone era yet this building is more artistic in my view. Fortunately city fathers everywhere now understand a classic building should be saved so its art and heritage can be bequeathed to... More

See the Marine building if only to walk into the lobby and see the grandeur of the past. This was Vancouver at's best (biased as I am a history buff) The Marine building inside could be compared to the Empire State if not in scale, in detail and art. Someone else here in this forum noted that they felt the... More

Riding the elevators is truly an experience if you like the magnificent wood inside the elevators. They are a work of art, as is the insider of the building.

The detail of this art-deco building is magnificent - both inside, and out. Thankfully, one can enter the building...look up and walk all the way around. I found myself "ooohing" and "awwwing" to myself. I think you will, too.

If you're interested in architecture, this is definitely worth a look. The lobby has a superb ceiling and the lifts have beautiful wood fittings.

This is a spectacular building. The elevators are a stunning example of art deco design. Just step into the lobby to get a feel for the ambience of art deco.

The outside and the inside is a beautiful building. You are allowed to go to the second floor and take pictures. The lobby is beautiful and has a large mosaic clock. The elevator doors are similar to the Empire State Building doors. All you need. Is about 5-10 minutes and it is free.

As a major fan of Art Deco architecture I have visited this building on each of two trips to Vancouver. It's easy to get to, being only two short blocks from the Vancouver Convention Center that is itself adjacent to Canada Place. On an Art Deco architectural scale, I would rate the Marine Building third behind the Chrysler Building in... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
