The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Granville Street
Granville Street spans many, multiple city blocks and has become so fastidiously known for its nightclubs and watering holes that it's fondly nicknamed the city's 'Entertainment District.' Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular and lively, with young revelers taking to the streets in droves and keeping the party going until late. Granville Street, being mostly open to pedestrian-only traffic, has a healthy social life along its main thoroughfares, even outside of its cafes and pubs, spilling onto the sidewalks. The locals are chatty, the shops at its expansive Pacific Centre Mall are trendy, and the whole area seems to be on a sugar rush: in a good way. Exuberance and camaraderie classify this neighbourhood.

We stopped here to admire the architecture of this church with its Douglas Fir ceiling beams and 32 stained glass windows. It's the oldest surviving church in downtown Vancouver. Once the brightest and tallest building in the city, it was known as ‘the light on the hill’, used by mariners for navigation as they came into port. Outside a 30m tower of steel, clad with stained glass, houses four bronze bells.

This is a lovely church with beautiful architecture inside and out. It's open to the public and was quite peaceful during our visit. Don't forget to look up while there - the design and construction of the ceiling is pretty interesting.

Great to see the Cathedral has reopened after the Covid thing. I find this a wonderful place to just sit, meditate, and catchup after a busy day downtown. Indeed, it is almost easy to forget about the interesting architectural characteristics of this 19th century edifice - stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings, and more. Looks small on the outside, but feels enormous on the inside.

I am a former member of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada and have lived in the north-central part of the province for many years.
When visiting Vancouver I occasionally drop into the cathedral to pay my respects. It is truly an oasis of quiet, peaceful sublimity within the noisy heart of the city where reflection on one's being seems a natural reaction. Well worth a visit.

This small church has beautiful stained glass windows inside, depicting many Christ-centered scenes. The food is a gorgeous wood construction. Very pretty inside.

This cathedral was built by shipbuilders and the roof inside looks like the hull of a ship. Cathedral as some beautiful stained glass windows.

Christ Church Cathedral is the "high church" for the Anglican faith in metro Vancouver. The rites come close to paralleling that of the Roman Catholic Church. The location and the architecture are magnificent.

My friend and I enjoyed touring this cathedral. The interior is beautiful. Make sure you leave a donation. The church provides meals several days a week for the homeless. We found the workers to be very friendly and helpful with a great sense of service for the community.
